(More customer reviews)I am someone who appreciates well-made cutlery. I believe that your culinary tools should be well-crafted, comfortable and perform well. I also like it when my culinary tools are aesthetically beautiful, which these are. I have purchased several Mundial Olivier Anquier series products, and they are consistently excellent on all three accounts.
First, you will never find a more beautiful knife anywhere. With gorgeous hand-crafted wooden handles and hand-forged blades, pulling any of these tools out of a wooden block sounds like you are drawing a sword (which you are). The sound is just amazing. The craftsmanship shows that whomever makes these (in Brazil, I believe) cares very deeply about quality.
Secondly, the blades perform superbly. This serrated bread knife will cut easily through anything. It's so sharp that it slices even the densest bread cleanly and effortlessly. In fact, it's so sharp that if you aren't careful, it will leave a deep cut line on your cutting board.
Finally, the hardwood handles are exceptionally comfortable in your hands. You will wish to oil them occasionally simply to preserve their longevity, but real hardwood handles trump any plastic product in terms of comfort, appearance and longevity.
The entire Olivier Anquier series reminds me of the olden days, when handmade things had exceptional quality and value. I love to use mine. They are slightly heavier than some carving or slicing tools, but this is a reflection of their exceptional materials and worksmanship (and they are not too heavy). These are knives that will outlive us, and that our grandchildren will be very happy to have.
