Viking Range White Stand Mixer 7 Qt. Review

(More customer reviews)The machine died after 3 months. I am just starting to bake and was enjoying it until I taxed the Viking with bread making - not multiple loaves but just one at a time. It died very silently - no smoke or ozone/burnt motor odor - just quietly died while making cream icing with cream cheese and cream. I hit the reverse and it just started to make a gurgling noise and then was no more.
I called the company - not really the company but a repair facility in Detroit and was told the best they could do was to mail me a FedEx slip and I was responsible for boxing the unit and they would repair it.
When I suggested that they send me a box or another motor unit (I would send the current unit back) I was informed that this was not company policy. When I attempted to call Viking and when I asked to speak to corporate customer service I was directed back to the repair facility in Detroit - this happened over and over.
I mentioned that I bought the unit retail on the website they still insisted that they couldn't help me.
Cooks illustrated rated the Kitchen Aid Professional 600 as their number one choice - the Viking did not even make it into the first three best choices - I strongly agree. The Viking is more expensive and the service is lacking. And more importantly the maching is inferior.
I am considering the Hobart or the Kitchen Aid and I will keep the Viking as backup. When you buy a mixer get it from a department store that offers guarantees that include replacement units. I am going to the Sears website now.

Wilton Bite Size Gingerbread 9 Cavity Review

I used original flavor non stick spray before I put the mix in and was able to pull the baked results out easily with a mere knife nudge. I made gingerbread cookie/cakes and chocolate chip cookies as well. The results were just as good with both, so it holds up well with multiple mixes. I let my items cool before applying the frosted faces and buttons, which set very nicely for a safe and tasty Christmas travel! I was very pleased, and so was everyone else!

I would have preferred receiving instructions regarding preparation of the pan before I attempted to
bake for the first time. A pamphlet with easy first-time recipes would have also been a nice touch.
However, the pans I purchased worked well.

(More customer reviews)This thing feels like a WWII landing craft. It's heavy, not pretty, but it sure gets the job done. This pan could be around long after the end of life as we know it.
Just keep it clean and dry. Don't let it soak in water or you might be sorry. All these products seem to season like cast iron. The more you use them the darker they get and the slicker they feel as the pores of the metal seal. Be sure to use a baking spray or oil and flour to keep the sticking down.

Rice flour baked goods stick to baking pans like you would not believe. If you're baking gluten-free, this is indispensable.
I used this to bake a gluten-free rice pizza crust in a toaster oven: it's the only thing that kept the crust from sticking to the pan; tinfoil, nope; wax paper, nope, and it melted into the crust--but this peeled right off.

Hamilton Beach 64695N Power Deluxe 6-Speed Hand/St Review

(More customer reviews)I have had this set for over a year now and couldn't be more unhappy with it. The mixer does not reach the bottom of the glass bowl so regardless you still have to mix by hand to get all the flour and other ingredients off the bottom of the bowl. The mixer gets bogged down easily and between speeds of 3 and 4 it just stops. There's apparently a short between those speeds but if you giggle the switch it will work again.
The bowl is extremely heavy glass so once you've mixed your ingredients it's very difficult to man-handle the bowl to tilt it to get the ingredients poured in your pans. The beaters come out while mixing. I've pushed and pushed them in but once you lift the head the beaters often stay in the bowl. Not every time but enough that it's aggravating to have to dig your beaters out of wet cake mix.
I don't have a recommendation for something better. I'll keep using this one because I just can't afford another one. But I do recommend you pass on this one and find better luck with another brand.

HOWEVER, the manual was excessively optimistic in its claims that this mixer can knead two loaves of wheat bread dough! Be aware that the gears are all NYLON, and the motor is plenty strong enough to strip the gears when it lugs down on stiff wheat dough. I have done so THREE TIMES now. Kitchenaid is now marketing a 6-quart "professional" model with all steel gears and a circuit breaker ... If you are going to buy a Kitchenaid mixer for real bread, go the extra mile for the tougher model. ...

Chicago Metallic Gourmetware Nonstick 6-Cup Popover Pan Review

(More customer reviews)This is a very well made pan. The interior and exterior has a smooth non-stick finish. I used the recipe that comes with the pan and the popovers turned out perfectly every time. The recipe is foolproof.
Additionally, my husband is just so impressed with the popovers (how lucky since they are so easy). If you have never made popovers before I think you will be amazed at how simple they are to pull together. If you can put together a cake mix you have more than enough skills to make a popover. They really are ridiculously simple to prepare.
This pan makes a large popover. I use this size for lunches as a vehicle to hold shrimp or chicken salad. It holds enough salad for a grown man for lunch.
If you are looking for the dinner size popovers check out the 12-count size by the same manufacturer.
I highly recommend this pan to anyone interested in making popovers at home.

One pizzza peel arrived and I worried that a mistake in my order had been made, but soon thereafter the other two arrived. I immediately started using mine for tossing the bread dough into the oven. It works great for the bread--perfect loaves every time. And, of course, I use it for pizza also. It is a lovely piece of wooden craftsmanship. Works well as a cutting board and to make pizza on then toss it into the oven. And the bread, well, need I say more? I feel very professional using my new pizza peel. You will too. Price is economical. Weight is not too heavy, not too light. Size is perfect for my needs. This is a great investment.

(More customer reviews)I have only GOOD things to say about this baking dish. I bought one for myself when I got my first apartment. Five years later, and it still looks brand new and I use it all the time. In fact, I had to buy a second one (in blue this time) because I use this so much!
This dish is a good size for making meals for one or two people, as well as side dishes for more, or brownies, etc. It fits nicely in the fridge or freezer for storage, in the microwave for easy reheating, and in the dishwasher for easy cleaning. The handles are good sized for easy gripping and looks perfectly at home on a side buffet table at holidays.
For the price, you can't beat this purchase. It is worth so much more than what you will actually spend.

(More customer reviews)My brioche simply pulls off easily right after baking, all the time, no exceptions! All I have to do is hold a warm mold (with a towel or oven mitten) upside down and pull on the brioche gently. Note that it is best to remove the brioche from the mold while it is warm or it might stick. After use, it easily cleans by washing with hot water only and drying with a kitchen towel. Its dark brown color promotes even baking. I have aluminum molds and have used tin molds, all I can say is that this Non-Stick bioche mold is so much more a joy to use. This 3-1/2 inch size is perfect for a 2 ounce dough. Depending on how much butter, egg, and sugar you've used, the 2 ounce portion will make a Brioche that's about 200 calories or more.
