Wilton Halloween Pre- Baked Cookie House Kit Review

(More customer reviews)For the first time, a Wilton product has let me down. We purchased the Halloween Pre-Baked Cookie House Kit to make with our children for the first time. We have been purchasing the Christmas Gingerbread House kit for years and have been throughly pleased every year, so thought this one would be much the same. We were sorely dissapointed. We thought it might have the tray like the Christmas one has - part of what makes it so easy, but it didn't. The walls of the house do not square up. We had to go to extreme lengths just to get the main four walls to match up and kind of stick together and even then, they were not at all sturdy. We could not get the roof to go on (after the walls drying overnight) without collapsing the 4 walls. We used up nearly 1/3 of our frosting just trying this. We ended up with large frosting covered cookies, a bunch of candy that really doesn't taste that good and 2 dissapointed children. I really doubt that we're the only ones who had this kind of problem with this product. It seems as if it was almost an afterthought and just thrown together. If you're going to buy it, buy with caution.

(More customer reviews)This is honestly the worst, most difficult, and messiest gingerbread house kit I have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with. The kids will probably have a good time.... if they're 2. Honestly, stay away. The frosting has a very bitter taste, and make your own frosting. Gross. Yeah, a good product if your a professional cake decorator that wants to decorate the smallest gingerbread house ever. Honestly, it's a joke of a product. Deserves a zero.

(More customer reviews)I bought 13 of these to do as a craft for my 11 year old daughters birthday party. I ordered a couple of extra ones because of the other reviews that said they may be broken in shipment. Not one of the houses was broken. The packaging and bubble wrap inside the box protected them very well. The corner of one of the boxes was quite dented so I was sure that one would be broke, but when I opened it, it was fine as well. The pre-assembled houses are so cute! There is no reason to waste time putting them together and holding the sides up with jars, like I have done with other houses.
By the way, the price here from party america is by far the best price. Jo'Annes web site has them at $16.99 which is even higher than the Wilton website at $16.50. Michael's has the unassembled type in the stores for the $10 but again, I didn't want to assemble 13 houses.

You start with flour. If you're looking for a "snap it together" kit this isn't for you. But if have basic knowledge of baking you'll enjoy this a lot.

Everything we tried to do to make the house stand was to no avail. We finally iced the pieces, had some of the pieces stand, and then placed two large rubber bands around the entire house to keep it together.

(More customer reviews)As a gingerbread house fanatic, I was thrilled to find this mold. I used it over a dozen times this Christmas, and it worked beautifully. The gingerbread pops out and the molds are very easy to clean. I did find that it was not necessary to fill the mold to the top, you can use just enough dough to get a solid piece, but it can be half as thick as the mold. This would make a fantastic gift, the packaging is very nice. If you are a serial gingerbread house baker, as I, having two sets helps production! Best gingerbread mold I have every seen or used.

I used the recipe included in the kit to make the dough. The taste of the end product was okay. I'm sure you can find better tasting recipes if you plan to eat it; but the nice thing about this recipe was that it was portioned to make one house. So you can make just one house or multiply it according to however many houses you desire.
My 2.5 year old had fun helping make the gingerbread house. She would press the dough in each area and I would go over it with a rolling pin.
I chose to move the pieces to a separate cookie sheet instead of baking them in the mold. This allowed me to bake all the necessary pieces at one time.
This is definitely something my girls and I will be using every year.

(More customer reviews)I thought I could trust the company to send a very nice GIANT gingerbread house for my family to decorate. Unfortunately it arrived in many broekn pieces. It looks like the manufacturer (Wilton) broke the pieces when it was wrapped. The shrink warp was so tight that the ends were curve up and looked to have caused pressure on the pieces. I don't blame Amazon shipping as it was well packed with bubble wrap in a very large box. Too bad, too much money for this item especially when it arived borken...if I wanted a broken gingerbread house I could have made it myself!

(More customer reviews)I used this kit to make gingerbread houses for each of my 4 grandchildren. I let the kids do the decorating. They were absolutely thrilled with the houses! The cookie cutters worked great - I had no problem with them whatsoever. I used the gingerbread recipe from Martha Stewart's 2008 Holiday Special Issue and glued the pieces together with lots of royal icing. The entire project WAS time consuming, but I would tackle it again just to see the looks on my grandchildrens' faces.

Paula Deen Signature Cast Iron Ginger Bread House Mold Review

(More customer reviews)This mold is extremely heavy (being cast iron) and would not be good for people that have trouble lifting or using heavy things. Of course the upside of that is that it will last for ages if taken care of. The thing about this mold that I don't like is that you have to do your baking in two stages, since it is all in one piece; bake cookies on one side, then bake cookies on the other once the first batch are done. I would much have prefered a mold that was two pieces both so that it would be less heavy, and so that all the baking could be done at once.
