I ordered three Mountain Woods Pizza Peels to use for making Artisan Bread from a recipe in Mother Earth News. One for myself and two for two friends I had sent the recipe to. One pizzza peel arrived and I worried that a mistake in my order had been made, but soon thereafter the other two arrived. I immediately started using mine for tossing the bread dough into the oven. It works great for the bread--perfect loaves every time. And, of course, I use it for pizza also. It is a lovely piece of wooden craftsmanship. Works well as a cutting board and to make pizza on then toss it into the oven. And the bread, well, need I say more? I feel very professional using my new pizza peel. You will too. Price is economical. Weight is not too heavy, not too light. Size is perfect for my needs. This is a great investment.

My review for this item could read exactly like the only other review for this item, with one exception - my baking stone only broke into 3 pieces. I followed the instructions exactly and the first time I used it to shattered in the oven as it was cooling.

Easy to clean, great heat retention, stove top to oven, dishwasher safe. It does it all.
This is a large pot and worth every penny. The clay construction makes it much lighter than
enameled cast iron (think Le Creuset). LOVE this pot. I'll get more in other sizes.

Says it expands so you can fit it into the slots on the sides of the oven (essentially making it it's own rack). This is only the case if you have a small/compact oven (the weird kind in some smaller apartments and in some kitchens I've seen in Europe). I have a standard-size (I think around 23" wide) oven, and even with the expanding handles, it doesn't come close to fitting.
This is, of course, not a big deal. I just set it on top of another rack.
I whipped up some pizza dough and rolled it right on this rack-- no flour dusting! No kidding! The non-stick is great. I made it pretty thin, topped it up, and baked for about 15 minutes at 475. The pizza was great. It was actually better with this pan than with my pizza stone (let the record show that I like *crispy* pizza...). It was crisp on the bottom, but still chewy. I could pick up a slice by the crust, and it didn't flop at all. That's how I like it. For reference, my home-made crust turned out similar to what you get with the (par-baked) Frescetta "Brick Oven" pizzas (the only good frozen pizzas, as far as I'm concerned).
Advantages:
1. Roll/prepare right on the sheet! No messing with a pizza peel!
2. Crust turns out great, and no sticking.
3. lightweight, easy to use, easy to clean, and cheap.
4. IMO, better results than with a stone.
5. No one-hour warm-up like when using a stone.
Disadvantages:
1. Doesn't expand to full width of a normal oven; must be used like a regular pan.
2. Warped a bit (the "pan twist") during baking; resumed normal shape upon cooling.
summary: FIVE stars for performance, but stupid size...
This is a no-brainer. If you're experimenting with making your own pizzas, definitely drop your $20 on this toy. Then if you use it for bread or cookies, let us know about it!!!

I have a portable convection oven that takes 12" pizza pans and this is the perfect size for that. Most stones are 13" and were too big.
I bake cookies and biscuits perfectly and evenly every time. Just be sure to pre-heat the stone. The company says to use foil when baking cookies - I did it once - it's not necessary - avoid that!
The company advocates not to use water all when cleaning. Just use a metal scraper after the stone cools. That works perfect for me. I keep a small size Pampered Chef spatula handy for that.

I picked this peel because it was larger than others I was looking at and it was made of hardwood. I wanted to use it as a peel and as a cutting board and this peel fills the bill nicely. When I make bread, I put a little corn meal on the peel and shape my round dough and let it rise right on the peel. When the oven is ready, I slide the bread right off the peel onto a hot pizza stone in the oven and let the bread bake for 30 minutes. Because the peel has a slanted/sharp edge on the front, I can slide it under the bread and bring it back out of the oven when it is done. It sits on the peel to cool and then I cut it right on the peel and enjoy fresh home made bread.
This is my main use of the peel. I haven't really used it for pizza as my main use is a cutting board and home made bread utility. It is of high quality and has a good price. I would recommend this peel as a gift or for your own use around the kitchen. It is larger than most peels, so be sure you have a place to store it out of the way when not using.

I've only had this a short time and I like it a lot. The price is good and the quality is good. The handle is clamped to the blade by a large wooden knob which screws on from beneath. You can loosen the knob to fold the handle or even remove the handle completely (nice for putting the blade in the dishwasher). The way it's designed though the knob attaches on the bottom which makes it so that the Peel can't be laid flat (the knob sticks out quite a ways below the blade). This can be fixed by putting the handle on upside-down and screwing the knob on from the top. Having the knob on the top isn't too bad, but I wish the handle was simply designed to mount with the knob on top so that it looks nicer when attached that way.
Update 9/8/2009: It's been a year and a half now and I'm still happy with this and wouldn't change anything in my review or rating. I still wish the handle was a better design, but it isn't bad and it's "fixable" as I mentioned in my original review.

I have been working on my homemade pizza project for years now. I tried different peels, but the dough always stuck. Jiggling and shaking didn't work, or I'd have to put so much cornmeal on the bottom it burned and was crunchy, affecting the crust mouthfeel that I'd worked so hard to perfect. If I put more flour on, it just burned and smoked up the oven. The movement of the pizza to the stone has alluded me for years - I resorted to pulling the stone out of the oven (I have the Pampered Chef one with the handles) and building the pizza on the hot stone, then putting it back in the oven. We burned ourselves more than once, plus you have to work so quickly you can't build a masterpiece.
With the Super Peel you can line up everyone's individual pizzas on the counter with very little flour. Each person perfects their masterpiece. Then zip zip you swoop up the pizzas and put them quickly on the hot stone, losing very little heat in the oven. This peel works EXACTLY as advertised. Watch the video on YouTube - it's exactly right. Your hand with the cloth stays still, while you move the peel. It's very very easy once you get used to the weight of the peel.
The quality is EXCELLENT. It's smooth, well crafted wood, comes with a very sturdy boad, and there's a hole in the top of the handle to store on a hook. It is heavy, so plan ahead where you hang it
This peel is much more expensive than others, but worth every penny in my book. It has changed how we do our pizzas, all for the better.

I used this stone on my large Big Green Egg virtually right out of the box and loved it! The stone itself is perfect, but I rated it a 4 because the pizza flip has a little to be desired. It seems a bit flimsy, but it definately did the job without any problems. I guess I had a different idea as to the flip. All-in-all this was a wonderful purchase for the backyard pizza maker.

The results are simply stunning! Using the very same recipe and ingredients I always use, I have made pizza as good as the best I have ever eaten. The crust is actually crunchy, and chewy. It produces perfect, pizzaria-style crust. Now on to baking bread. Do spring for a pizza peel, you'll need it to get the assembled pizza on and off the stone.

I bought this to keep in my oven to help with oven temperatures. I took it out to wipe something off of after using it for just two days and it broke in half. Since I wasn't planning to use it for pizza I just kept it and put it back in the oven. Definitely be gentle with this stone though, it breaks VERY easily!

Have had no problem with these pizza stones. Have used them on a big green egg charcoal cooker for several years now for all kinds of things. Not as fragile as pampered chef. Yes they stain. Yes, after one use they will not look new. But they cook evenly and do exactly what they are supposed to. Have no chips, breaks, or fractures. Good stuff.

Bought this set after many years of homemade pizzas in deep dish pans. Too high in carbs so we thought about a pizza stone for thinner crust pizzas.
This set works GREAT. Heat the stone for 20 minutes while the dough is rising on the peel and you're layering your ingredients. Then slide it onto the stone for 20-25 minutes. GREAT PIZZA, just like a wood-fired pizza cafe!!!

I bought this stone because I needed a bigger stone than the standard one I already had which is made of clay. This stone was 15 inches which just fit in my oven. My old clay stone is smaller and I had trouble with my pizza dough hanging over the edge when I transferred it from the peel to the stone in the oven. The Progressive Pizza Stone was the right size that I wanted so I thought I would give it a try.
As usual with my orders from Amazon, the product arrived quickly and in one piece.
I am somewhat disappointed with this stone. While it does the job, the pizza dough sticks badly to the ceramic surface of the stone. I tried seasoning the stone with a little oil, but the ceramic surface is a lot more porous than the clay used in the other stone I have. So, the oil didn't seem to make much difference. I had a terrible time getting the pizza off the stone - even using a spatula to try to dig it off did not work and the pizza was pretty torn up. A better plan would have been to put corn meal on the stone before putting the dough on top.
The bottom line is that a ceramic stone allows the pizza dough to stick to the surface as it cooks. you have to make sure you have lots of corn meal on the stone before you slide the dough on. In the future, I would stick with clay and forgo ceramic.

Baking parchment was a wonderful invention but the rolls never seem to work out to the right length and it is single use only. If you have ever baked a bunch of cookies (several trays worth) with parchment you know it can be a pain to keep replacing it. Well, super parchment is reusable and super non-stick. If you do a lot of baking it quickly pays for itself.
I trim my super parchment to be the same size as my cookie sheets. I have used the same to sheets for years without any degradation of function. When I back cookies it is at least a gross and often far more. I also use them for panless bread baking. The sheet is 13"X17" and will fit most pans. It feels a lot like oil cloth in its slickness but this can take the heat. My local overpriced gourmet kitchen store sells these for $[...] but they are worth much more in time savings, ease of use and cleaning, and functionality. If you bake then you should check this stuff out.
