I am amazed at all the reviews for toasters on Amazon. I am not alone out here trying to find one that works on a regular basis. I too was tired of buying a new cheap toaster every year or so and getting poor results. I decided to go for a more expensive unit and picked this Delonghi. First, be aware that the toaster I received has a huge black "Delonghi" printed on the surface below the buttons. It takes up almost the length of the toaster. I chose the unit for its clean look and this is really distracting. As with the cheap toasters, it does not toast both sides of the bread evenly. Is there any toaster that does? On the second use, the electronic toast darkness setting stopped working. When you plug in the toaster, it resets to 3. You could go down to 2 or 1 but then you could not go up again. You can unplug it and get back to 3 but there was no way to get it to 4, 5 or 6. The other issue I found with it is if you set something on the counter and just barely tap the toast button, it will start toasting. I must have set it off three times when I set groceries on top of the counter and I was not even aware it was toasting until I burned my hand on the surface. It is going back today.

With its sleek design and brushed metal housing, this two-slice toaster not only looks great in any contemporary kitchen, but it also toasts bread to crispy perfection. The unit's extra-wide, extra-long toasting slots accommodate various types of bread including bagels, buns, and muffins, while its self-adjusting grips center the bread to ensure even results both front and back. To use, simply add one or two pieces of bread and make a selection from the push-button control panel. The unit automatically lowers the bread for toasting, then, just as smoothly, raises it up at the end of the cycle--no popping up involved. Functions include "defrost" for items like frozen waffles, "bagel" for toasting just one side, "warm" for keeping previously toasted items warm without burning, and "cancel" for ending the cycle at any time. Other highlights include an LED countdown display to monitor the stages of toasting, an audible signal that indicates when there's just eight seconds before the end of the cycle, an auto keep-warm function that drops toast down after eight seconds of being left in the toaster, and a removable warming rack for croissants, blueberry muffins, and other baked goods. The 800-watt toaster measures approximately 10-4/5 by 6-2/3 by 7-2/3 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
