(More customer reviews)I bought this slicer primarily because I bake breads at home quite often and I wanted something I could use to make even slices. I have to say I'm disappointed in the flimsy nature of the acryllic fingers, which guide the knife through the bread. While attempting to slice a loaf of bread, the fingers seem to bend and are easily maneuvered out of joint by the sawing of the bread knife through the loaf. I always fear, each time I use the slicer, that the fingers are going to snap off with one thrust.
Another drawback to this design is the lack of a "guide press" to hold the bread in place while slicing. The design of the slicer is such that one puts the loaf to be sliced against the acryllic sides and must hold the loaf in place with one hand while attempting to slice with the other hand. One needs a third hand in order to hold the slicer in place and a forth to hold the fingers in place so they don't bend and snap with the natural sawing motion of the bread knife. I have, as of yet, to get 2 equally measured slices of bread while cutting.
Now, after all that, does the bread slicer do what it says it's going to do? Yes ... it just does so in a flimsier manner than I'd expected. Rubber feeting on the bottom of the unit, sturdier acrylic fingers and a press to hold the bread still while between the slots would improve this design vastly.
