Breville CT70XL Ikon 2-Slice Electric Toaster Review

Breville CT70XL Ikon 2-Slice Electric Toaster
Average Reviews:

This toaster has a few features that really stand out:
-Consistent Results.
If your partner likes their bagel lightly toasted, and you like yours golden brown, you can both get what you want without any guesswork.
-Digital Readout
There is a digital readout that gives you unambiguous feedback. You can see at all times what darkness you have the toaster set to. It also gives you a little count-down timer so you know how long you have left.
-Cancel button.
You don't have to pry at the handle to cancel your toast. Of course, since you get consistent results, you probably don't have to cancel that often.
-Toast-popup.
If you do pull the handle up, your toast comes up for you to look at it without having to cancel the toasting. Just let go, and the toast drops back down to continue the cycle.
-Audio feedback
It beeps when your toast is done. Sometimes the pop-up sound can be lost over the sound of the coffee machine. The beep is much easier to hear.
-More options I don't use.
There are some more buttons in the front that I've not had to use. Defrost and warm, I think.
I'm very pleased with my new toaster. I like over-engineered devices- devices where someone has thought of nearly everything and found an elegant solution. This toaster doesn't disappoint.
Update, Aug 14, 2009:
After two years of use this toaster is still going strong.

Dualit 2-Slice Toaster, Petal Pink Review

Dualit 2-Slice Toaster, Petal Pink
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the Dualit toaster about 12 months ago and am glad that I did.
I wanted a pink toaster to match my kitchen decor and I was sold on the Dualit idea because of its reputation for quality workmanship.
The toaster produces excellent toast. Though the clock ticking noise may be annoying for some people, I like it. The toast that is produced is crisp on the outside but still moist on the inside which is just the way my husband and I prefer our toast to be cooked.
I like the crumb tray feature; it makes for easy cleaning. I also purchased the sandwich case and I am very pleased with the quality of the toasted sandwiches.
Overall, the toaster is a little on the pricey side, but I think it's worth every penny.

Breville Ikon Toaster CT7 Review

Breville Ikon Toaster CT7
Average Reviews:

I hate toasters, that is to say, I hate toasters that don't... toast. In the past, I have returned new toasters along with toasted samples that show how poorly the product functioned. It has been a curiousity of mine that we can put men on the moon, explore the ocean depths, even perform complex organ transplants; yet man can not create an appliance that will consistently and evenly toast a piece of bread.
Our previous toaster lived a long, albeit, mediocre life. We would have liked to have replaced it with a similar model since our expectations (low) were already molded by the last one, but it had be discontinued which left us on the quest to find another brand. Arghhh!
The search ended with the Breville CT75XL 4 slice toaster. We've had the toaster for about 30 days and have toasted a variety of breads, bagels, and frozen waffles; all to our complete amazement and satisfaction.
The unit's footprint is a bit large but acceptable, yet then most 4 slice toasters tend to be on the behemoth side these days. I'm not sure why the darkness control goes to all the up to 10 as we have found that setting it to 4 seems to be plenty dark enough. The digital display has an integrated timer with segments that blink as the toasting time counts down. When the toast is ready, the toaster will beep just prior to popping up the product.
Now, I'm not a professional product reviewer so I won't go into the nitty-gritty details as to the features. You can read all about them from the manufacturer's website. I just wanted to let those that are interested, that, for one who hates toasters, the Breville has been a pleasant find.

Architec Gripperwood Sheesham Cutting Board, 12 by 16-Inch Review

Architec Gripperwood Sheesham Cutting Board, 12 by 16-Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just received the cutting board, so this is not a review of the board's functionality, but rather its appearance. The smaller size of this cutting board had 4 reviews, all of which gave 5 stars, so I was excited about receiving this product. My response to seeing it for the first time was mixed. While it made of a very attractive wood, the workmanship was somewhat disappointing. I did not expect there to be an obvious spot of wood putty filling in the porousness of a knot in the wood. Not only was it very evident that it was a wood putty patch, it had not been sanded down properly and was a bit rough on its surface. While it was located on the periphery of the board and probably won't interfere with its functionality, it was still disappointing. I will probably keep the board because I don't want to go through the hassle of returning it and I don't expect the putty to keep the board from doing its job.

Dualit Lite Soft Touch Toaster Review

Dualit Lite Soft Touch Toaster
Average Reviews:

I bought this lovely toaster because (a) my toaster oven takes about 5 minutes to make toast - and that's its only job (b) my toaster oven is HUGE and SO UGLY! I got fed up with how much space it took up in my pantry and finally decided to splurge on the Dualit. I wanted a toaster that I loved to look at, so I could leave it on the counter without 'shame.' It is beautiful and makes perfect toast in under 60 seconds. It's so good, actually, that I burnt my first try because I had the settings up too high. (Heat scale is 1-9: on a 3, I had perfect toast in less than a minute.) On setting 9 my toast was ... not toast. For those who appreciate well-designed items, I highly recommend that you splurge on this toaster! [For size perspective, the Dualit Lite is the same size as a regular 2-slice toaster. I was afraid it would be too small, but it's just right to keep out all the time.]

With its sleek, contemporary design, this four-slice toaster brings a new level of sophistication to breakfast time. The unit features durable ABS housing saddled with polished stainless steel for a unique appeal that won't go unnoticed. More than just good looks, however, the appliance comes equipped with a variable browning-control dial for adjusting the shade from light to dark, a lowering lever with a stay-cool knob, and extra-wide slots that adjust automatically to accommodate bagels, English muffins, and even thick slices of homemade bread. Push the "bagel" button to toast the cut side of bagels while gently warming the outside, or push the "defrost" button to defrost frozen pastries or waffles before toasting to perfection. The appliance also offers a peek-and-pop function for checking the status while toasting and a neon light that glows during the toasting process or flashes when toasting buns. Other highlights include a high-lift mechanism for easily removing smaller items; 900 watts of power to ensure fast, crisp results; and a slide-out crumb tray for quick cleanup. The four-slice toaster measures approximately 15 by 6-2/3 by 8 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Breville 5- Quart Die-Cast Stand Mixer Review

Breville 5- Quart Die-Cast Stand Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, I will be completely honest, I am not an excellent cook. I am a good one. But I am an excellent baker. I take it extremely seriously and have been baking for a very long time. Like any baker, novice or highly skilled, I take pride in what I bake and how it is done. And sometimes there is frustration with a mixer and you just forgo it and attack it with good old arm strength to get the last bit of work into something, like a dough. So when this stand mixer arrived I wondered would it stand up to my KitchenAid 600 or would I be left doing more work than I normally would. Thankfully, I can answer that the Brevile 5 quart mixer handles extremely well!
I made two things to test it out: mashed potatoes and cheesecake, don't judge me, that covers most of the food groups. The flat beater handled the potatoes fine. And the added bonus was that the Breville didn't shift across the table on a higher setting, there was a slight vibration. The second test was with the cheesecake. A nice smooth cheesecake is what I like, a thick texture that is also velvety. I do use the wire whip even after I've added the cream cheese just to get a little bit more air. And, again, the Breville had no issues and since I do like a thicker cheesecake, it was nice to see the wire whip hold up.
Here are a few added pluses of this beauty:
The release button! Gives you more access to the bowl by releasing and raising the mixer head for adding more ingredients.
The chrome finish is lovely and goes with the decor of any kitchen due to its simplicity.
It comes with an instruction manual that has a few solid recipes.
The weight of it was a pleasant surprise, by no means is it light, 20 pounds., give or take. But it is evenly distributed and stays put when going on its highest setting.
It comes with a great pour guard. But the best attachment is the scraper beater, also included is the standard flat, it has rubber edges that were able to scrape the sides of the bowl while mixing the cheesecake and mashed potatoes without me having to stop the mixer!!! I don't know if this will work with everything, probably not, but it was great to have a little bit of a time saver. And speaking of time savers, it comes with a digital one that can count down or up and set a mixing time for what you are making so you don't over or under whip. While this is great, I won't be using it often, if at all, there are far too many variables that go along with baking/cooking to determine a "set time," but it is nice to have a guesstimate. And you get a spatula. Yes, I was excited about the spatula.
The cord can also be hidden away inside of the Breville, love it.
A clear to read LED speed indicator.
Again, this is a great mixer that is comparable to the KitchenAid Pro which I have and am a fan of. I hope I covered enough bases to aid in the help of purchasing a great mixer. There are other mixers out there, Vikings, Artisans, etc. But budget, usability, and sometimes the loudness of the motor are all factors. Breville does very nicely in all three of those areas. It is not the cheapest mixer, but it is a very well made one that is comparable to models that run a bit higher, giving you a bit more attachments as well. It is also solidly built and looks as if it may withstand the test of time.

Breville BSG520XL Panini Duo 1500-Watt Nonstick Panini Press Review

Breville BSG520XL Panini Duo 1500-Watt Nonstick Panini Press
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The immediate comparison I made when I received this Panini press was to the Cuisinart GR-3 Griddler Jr, Brushed Stainless Steel, and the key difference between the two products (and the reason I'm giving the better constructed, perhaps even better performing press three stars rather than five) is you can remove the plates in the Cuisinart, and you cannot in the Breville. Convenience and ease of use are central considerations when it comes to just how much you're going to want to use these 'extra' kitchen devices, and if it's a headache to clean something like burnt/stuck preserves, then you're going to be less likely to want to pull it out and use it again.
I want to back up a little bit, because I think Breville generally designs and manufactures outstanding high-quality but still affordable products. This press is no exception. Having used both this Breville and the aforementioned Cuisinart, I would give the Breville the edge on almost every single front. It feels more solidly constructed of higher quality materials, it seems to heat more evenly, although the Cuisinart does allow a range of temperature settings as opposed to Breville's one-temp-fits-all approach. I actually like having one flat and one grilled plate in the Breville, compared to the two grilled plates in the Cuisinart -- the flat surface providing a much more even and consistent heat that really radiates into the middle of the sandwich better than the more limited surface contact provided by just grill plates (but you still have the all-important texture and grill marks from the top plate). Both adapt to larger sandwiches. Both sport non-stick surfaces (although the Breville's is much smoother as the Cuisinart employs a grittier non-stick treatment). Both are perfectly sized for a couple good-sized sandwiches, without all the wasted space that comes with and from the larger models in each line.
I like this press enough that even as I wrap this review up I wonder if I should be giving it 4 stars rather than 3. Standing on its own, it deserves every bit of 4 stars. It's when it's held in contrast to a like-priced alternative like the Cuisinart that the Breville loses some of its luster, and then really only due to a question of pure convenience (in the form of removable plates).
If those removable plates aren't of particular importance to you, I actually recommend this press over the Cuisinart. For me, the convenience of cleaning the removable plates provide is what makes it an easy decision between the two when I want to grill a sandwich.

Easily create restaurant-quality grilled panini sandwiches and more with this convenient panini press. The unit features a powerful 1500-watt element for fast heating, and its upper and lower grill plates provide a nonstick, scratch-resistant Quantanium surface for lower-fat cooking (no need for butter or oil), effortless food release, and quick cleanup. The bottom plate, which measures 11-1/4 by 8-3/4 inches, offers a flat design for more thorough cooking (also suitable for pancakes and eggs), while the 11-1/4-by-7-3/5-inch ribbed top plate creates authentic cafe-style grill marks. Even more, the grill's floating top plate and four adjustable height settings make it possible to accommodate even the most ambitious of sandwiches or to keep the top plate suspended above food, radiating heat down when cooking breakfast items or open-style melts. Other highlights include "power-on" and "ready-to-cook" indicator lights, heavy-duty die-cast arms, nonslip feet for stability, a locking clip for upright storage, and a cord wrap in the base. The included user manual offers simple-to-follow instructions, as well as an array of delicious recipe ideas--from herbed omelet panini, warm Caesar sandwiches, or grilled chicken lavosh with mango and pinenut mayonnaise to dessert items like sweet fig focaccia, toasted chocolate panini, or crispy brioche with berries. Elegantly housed in brushed stainless steel, the panini press measures 13 by 11-3/4 by 5-1/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Breville Die-Cast Smart Toaster Review

Breville Die-Cast Smart Toaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spent about a year looking at toasters on Amazon. Needed one for my renovated house. I just could not bring myself to pay $128 for a toaster, but after reading features, was also unable to buy anything else. I convinced myself that it would look so great with my black soapstone counters and brushed stainless appliance junk that I should really consider it a renovation cost. Problem solved!
Toaster arrived last weekend, have taken several days off from job to make toast. First, let's just say how cool the thing looks and works. Yes, it is weighty, but I don't carry it around much. But, it's got these cool tech buttons that do all the heaviest work, like moving the toast up and down. Then there is that row of LEDs that flash to show how much toasting time remains. Also very cool! And it wasn't until I read revies here that I understood what "bagel" settings were. This one has 'em. "Lift and look" takes away some of the dark side of toasting, but is great for the anxiety-ridden. "A little bit more" is also fun, though there is no "little bit less". Anyway great fun and great looks. I can't wait to see how house-guests respond. I have to find a house-guest.
One of my biggest hesitations about the Breville, aside from humorous price, was the reviews suggesting it was unable to toast evenly. I immediately bought bread at Acme and found even toasting, slice after slice. The local sparrows were happy with the experiment and urged a repeat run. I guess reviewers here must have gotten bum units? I am surprised Breville does not want to take back the product they bought? I noted in the manual (RTFM) that they recommend a dedicated circuit (and what next, a dedicated toast house?), but they do say if it doesn't get sufficient amps it may perform poorly. I agree with reviewers that an examination of the heating ribbons was disappointing: they are a bit dim and patchy; for this price I was expecting an advance view into Hell.
Anyway, so far I still think !. Beautiful 2. functionality supreme! And all for only $129 or so!

Cuisinart TOB-155 Toaster Oven, Stainless and Black Review

Cuisinart TOB-155 Toaster Oven, Stainless and Black

My husband said he needed a toaster oven for his work so I told him to take ours and I'd buy a new one. (yay!) I went shopping all around town looking at different models... wasn't too impressed with what I saw. The few I DID like I came home to read horror reviews about on amazon. I finally found this one and I believe all the possitive reviews are right. This warms up quickly and toasts perfectly. It looks very nice and seems to be excellent quality. Its very easy to use and I LOVE the touch buttons and digital display. Within minutes of plugging it in I successfully toasted half a frozen bagel as an experiment/snack and it was toasted perfection!! The options are very handy and work great. For the Bagel I just pressed toast-defrost-bagel and selected the darkness setting. I realize now that my old toaster oven was drying food out and heated unevenly. I have also cooked a pizza in it and it was done quickly and evenly also. The only complaint is what was mentioned about having to be careful not to touch it when it's hot. The handle doesn't seem to get hot but just behind it on the metal it does. It is possible you could be burned that way, I did jerk my hand back once on casually opening the door(and I have small hands). That doesn't deter me from loving this toaster oven but I will be careful when it gets very hot. My husband wants to take this one to his work... I said no way! :) With Amazons good price and free shipping its well worth it!
