Panasonic - YeastPro Automatic Breadmaker Review

ya know, last year, this machine went kaput...and I really miss it and got to thinking about how long I had this and how much I relied on it. I made rolls, whole grain bread, pizza dough, cinnamon roll dough, and lots and lots of loaves of bread: whole wheat, oatmeal, white, raisin, etc. Always made a great loaf. I would put soup in the crock pot and bread ingredients in the machine and always had a good dinnner on a cool fall or winter evening. The cookbook and instruction manual is very helpful. In fact, I still have it on the bookshelf. soo how long did it last? 15 YEARS!!

Sunbeam Oster Breadmaker Paddle 108962 Review

Sunbeam Oster Breadmaker Paddle 108962

Arrived wrapped in newsprint and advertisements, which was very unprofessional and shady. It ended up costing about the same amount to ship as the price of the product. Plus, it didn't fit my model. I couldn't find a single paddle available to fit the Sunbeam 5891, so I figured the Sunbeam 5890 paddle just might be a close enough match but I was wrong. It is unfair for me to rate it poorly on the basis of it not fitting, that was a long shot. But my rating is based on the poor condition of the paddle that I received from this company. Not only was it just thrown into a box with crumpled newspaper the paddle itself was quite banged up and looked used. I would order from another company if possible if you need to replace a paddle.

I've been using this machine for about three years. The breads are really good, but I have some issues: if for any reason do you want to stop the machine, you have to re-start the whole process again; the kneading process is too strong and takes too long. I also don't like the big hole in the breads. I take care of my kitchen appliances very well, but the chrome is starting to show some brown spots. If you don't have another option, this is a good machine.

It's a paddle. Why rate the paddle at 1 star when you stupidly bought the wrong part? You actually went the trouble after purchasing the wrong part to come back here and give the paddle a 1 star? Did the paddle not perform to your expectations? How did the paddle let you down, man?

I accidently threw away our Breadman TR875 paddle as it was embedded in a brick of a loaf that failed to rise. I dind't want to pay $20 for a Breadman paddle from a questionable source. On the recommendation of one review I purchased part# 108962-000-000. It fit our Breadman TR875 perfectly and it makes beautiful loaves again. The best part is this totally redeems a husband for throwing away his wife's breadmaker paddle!!!

Breadman TR2500C Ultimate Plus Breadmachine

So, this is my second Breadman. I returned the first after 3 weeks becasue the pan would pop up while kneading, espeically those tougher doughs like whole wheat. I would have to babysit it and relock it in when it came out. Came down once in the am to find my bread half mixed, but cooked through....what a mess!
I returned that one thinking it was a fluke (b/c when it did make bread, it was wonderful).
The second one had the same problem. Called Customer Service...very nice lady called me back, reading from a manual that I should try to bend the little metal clips a bit to get a better lock. Tried it, didn't work. Furthermoe, once a used raisons in the 'extras' dispenser, and not the thing sticks and con't relase other things into the bread (had to scrape out rosemary from there...ug).
Looking for a new brand and new machine.

HH gave this to me for Christmas because he knew I've been wanting one for so long and I've baked 3 loaves so far (lots of ingredients to buy)! It takes about 3 hours to cook a fully developed loaf and almost 1 1/2 hours for rapid. Homemade bread is so delicious! You basically add the ingredients in order (yeast always last), press the settings, the breadman kneads and bakes, press stop, eject, and enjoy!
I barely have to clean the pan because it is nonstick! Love it love it love it!
I would suggest if you want to begin baking right away to look for bread machine recipes online so that you can have your ingredients ready once you purchase.
**Update**
I've had this since Christmas and it has been working fine. I'm still satisfied with it. Do note that my bread comes out better and more developed with Rapid Rise Yeast.

1/13/2011 update
I finally received a call back, the rep asked me many questions to ascertain if it was fixable. It was not. As this is a brand new model, I was the only person to date that had encountered this problem, yay me! :-(
The solution was to cut off the plug & mail it in a padded mailer & upon arrival they will replace the faulty unit. I certainly will put the new unit to a MUCH more rigorous baking schedule than I had the previous one, to make sure if is is going to fail, it will while still under warranty! I will continue to post my results!1/11/2011 update
Below is a copy of my follow up email to the manufacturer after waiting DAYS for the return call (an option they give you after waiting on hold twice as long as they say your wait time would be, I gave up after 20+ minutes!)
If I ever get a reply I will let you know but for now I would not recommend ANY Breadman products for lack of customer support! The company that handles the support isn't even them!! It is a professional business that handles a bunch of other manufacturers like: Black and Decker, George Foreman, Breadman, Juiceman, Russell Hobbs, Farberware, Littermaid& Delonghi!
So buyer beware if you're thinking of customer support for one of those brands also.......

Here is my email to them:
Your Company that manufactures the Breadman BK2000B 2-1/2-Pound Bakery Pro Bread Maker, solicited Amazon to have this item reviewed by several of it's top reviewers of influence, I was chosen as one of them in this area. I had ORIGINALLY given it a VERY favorable review, however since it completely died after 2 months of light use, I have revised my previous glowing review to one that reflects my new experience with this item & the non existent support in getting ANY assistance with getting this Breadmaker up & running again! After having made a loaf of bread the previous day (all loafs were from the enclosed recipe book & all of white flour varieties) When I went to use it the next day there was absolutely no power to it, I tried unplugging it & replugging it in, nada! No juice, no error codes, NOTHING! And yes all other appliances will run plugged into that socket. AND I have unplugged it after EVERY use so NO there is no chance of a power surge from a storm in my area blowing a fuse or damaging it!
I have waited on hold for over 20 minutes (when the recording stated that the wait time was less than 10 minutes) & finally left a message for a call back, which never came in the following days after that call was placed. I am now contacting you via this website as a last resort. All of this will be related in my following updates for the Amazon Vine review I have posted! I would think you would have given better customer service knowing this is a new model being evaluated but alas........it seems that there is virtually NO customer service but a generic recording that continually loops with the same hold message!
I will not only post this on Amazon but on every site that reviews breadmakers to prevent anyone else from buying this expensive doorstop! I am extremely disappointed with your company's customer service, I know that a lemon can occur even with the best manufacturers but your lack of help is what is appalling!
1/06/2011 update
It originally worked as described below, however this morning after measuring all the ingredients.......NOTHING! NO POWER AT ALL, no error codes nothing, dead as a doornail! Major bummer as we were loving it! While it was working it was wonderful. I am on hold with customer service going on 20 minutes right now! I'll update later IF I get this resolved!
:-(
Clear off your counter and get ready to have some fun! I have had many different bread machines (Dak, Black & Decker, Zojirushi etc) in the past and what I like the most about this one is that it gives you the option to either make one large loaf (2 OR 2 1/2 pound loaf!) or two smaller 1 pound ones. This is great when I want to make two different types of bread at the same time...just press a couple of buttons and then just walk away...LOVE it! Another plus is that the paddles in the larger loaf pan are collapsible so you don't get those two holes baked in the bottom of your loaf that you'd normally get with other bread machines. It doesn't have that feature for the smaller loaf pan, but I'm hoping that maybe someday soon that they can fix it. There is also a fruit/nut dispenser that will add your ingredients at just the right time, however, I've discovered if you're making a large loaf, that the fruit and nut/dispenser is just too small, so you'll end up adding the ingredients in at the beep. It's really no big deal, it's not that hard to add some raisins and nuts at the beep...but it would have been perfect if they could have made the dispenser just a little bit bigger. Also, on my very first loaf I didn't have 1 of the paddles totally on & I had to dig the ingredients away & FIRMLY push it on again to make sure it was all the way down! After that , smooth sailing! I have just one more complaint, it's minor, kind of petty really, but it's getting on my nerves. The instruction manual is half manual and half recipe book. Awesome right? Not quite. I'm not sure if it is just my book, or if was a mass production error but every other page is upside down! Reading the manual and recipes was like some kind of cruel torture that they'd have on a reality show...other than that, I'm loving my Breadman and eating way too many carbs!
BTW, I grind my own whole wheat & it kneads the heavier wheat loaves as easily as the lighter all white flour ones! AND it IS teflon coated for those needing that info!

After reading other reviews, I took my life in my hands and ordered the Breadman 2500. Fortunately, I have had no trouble with the machine at any of the stages. Having baked bread by hand regularly for over 40 years, I was surprised to find the Breadman texture quite acceptable. Here are a couple of tips I got from the company while trying to do the basic set up: 1. When you turn on the machine to "burn off manufacturing oils", take the bread pan out and leave the top of the machine open. This was not mentioned in the booklet. 2. When you set the cycle you want for a loaf, don't expect to see words like "white bread" - you get only the amount of time it takes to run the full cycle. Keep pressing "Select" until the arrow on the right stops where you want it. Then do the same with "Crust Control" and "Loaf Size". Then you're ready to push "Start". 3. After you have completed the entire baking, push the Reset button and hold down for 4 seconds. Do this as well if the electricity goes off but you are not baking, or if you unplug the machine. This precautionary measure will keep you from finding yourself in an emergency cycle.
Some people have trouble with the dough ball not picking up all the flour during kneading. My suggestion is that your dough ball isn't quite moist enough. I am creating my own recipes, especially since I like to make some breads with cooked cereal. The important thing if there is some question as to whether you have the right balance of wet and dry ingredients is to observe your dough ball during the 2nd kneading. If there is any flour in the corners that has not picked up after a few minutes, use your rubber spatula to scrape it toward the middle. If this doesn't work, I suggest using a spritzer on the dough ball until the flour adheres. If the dough is sticking a little to the sides of the pan as it goes around, begin lightly sprinkling flour on the ball until it stops doing this. The whole wheat bread, which I made precisely according to the recipe, turned out perfect, but, as I say, if you are experimenting, this is how you can bake any bread recipe you want to and it will turn out perfectly. Your dough ball should be spongy and only slightly sticky.
I hope this is helplful information for Breadman owners. The key to all good bread is learning how to recognize the look and feel of a good lump during and after kneading.
NEARLY TWO YEARS LATER:
It is July 15, 2008, and I'm still baking away. So far I've never had a failure with this machine. I have found a few corrections to the white bread recipe (for 1 1/2 lb loaf) make a better loaf. To start with, I always use King Arthur bread Flour, which a lot of Wal-Marts carry. I use 1 cup plus 3 teaspoons water instead of 2 teaspoons, 2 teaspoons of yeast rather than 1 1/2, tho 1 1/2 works fine. That little bit of extra water helps. I also probably use couple of TBS oil, rather than 1 1/2. And I use 2 teasp. salt rather than 1/1/2. It is important to know that different flours behave different ways, and different batches of flours of the same kind can need more or less moisture. This is especially noticeable using whole wheat flour. If you let the bread sit in the machine for 10-15 minutes after baking is complete, the steam softens the sides enough to dump the loaf out but doesn't leave the loaf soggy. Before I figured that out, I used a small rubber spatula to loosen the sides. Be sure you don't scrape the pan with a metal utensil as it scratches easily. Well, happy baking!!

This is the third bread maker that I've owned over the years. The first two were made by Regal and back then the loaves were tall and more square in size. One of the features I like about this Breadman BK1060S is that the loaf is more rectangular in size and that means you can slice it like a normal loaf of bread.
The bread maker is an attractive design made of brushed aluminum. Although it is a thin aluminum that seems to show every dent and surface flaw easily, it's good enough. The lid of the bread maker is designed to completely lift off from the main unit if you need to remove it for cleaning. However I did notice that because of the plastic hinges that are used, a certain amount of "play" is introduced that makes it possible for the lid to hit the right edge of the main unit as you are closing the lid. This is not a huge issue, but you just need to be aware of that fact as you close the lid. I've uploaded a few photos in the Customer Images area to show you exactly what I mean.
I followed the instructions and before making my first loaf of bread, ran the machine through a baking cycle to burn off any residues from the manufacturing process. Once the unit cooled down, I washed the baking tray. I decided to make as my first loaf, the 2lb basic white bread. I was immediately thrown off a bit by the recipe calling for 1 1/2 TBS of dry milk powder. What??? Then my brain got tied into a knot as I was trying to figure out how to make the bread without dry milk powder. I quickly realized I could probably just substitute milk for the water and completely omit the dry milk powder. Bingo... worked like a charm. The reason the recipes call for dry milk powder is to account for the possibility of you choosing delayed baking in which case milk sitting in the maker for hours before being cooked, could spoil.
So the first loaf came out just about perfect. I've uploaded a couple pictures of it. The top of the loaf collapsed just a bit, but the texture of the bread was perfect. No voids whatsoever and the crust (medium by default) was just perfect.
As far as the collapsible paddle is concerned, it worked as expected. I did try to ensure that it was upright before adding the ingredients and made an effort to ensure it did not collapse as I was adding the flour even though the instructions claim that even if the paddle does collapse, that it will correct itself once the kneading cycle begins. Once the loaf was baked and removed from the tray, the paddle had indeed collapsed as it was supposed to leaving only a small hole about 1/2" deep in the bottom of the loaf. I've uploaded a photo to show this.
Another feature of this bread maker that is great is the ability to have nuts and fruits drop into your dough at the appropriate time via the dispenser located at the top rear area of the lid. You load the ingredients and then during the appropriate cycle, the ingredients are dropped into the dough and mixed in without your intervention. Brilliant!
The operation of the bread maker was easy enough. Instructions were clear and the recipe book contained a lot of different recipes including those for just dough so you can bake in your own oven. There are also some jam recipes included. Yum... nothing like piping hot, freshly made bread with butter and home-made jam.
Overall I'm pleased with the Breadman bread maker. It is reasonably priced, attractive, cleans up easily and makes a great, nearly foolproof loaf of bread. About the only advice I can give is to make sure you follow your recipe closely and be consistent in measuring your ingredients. About the only way you can screw up is if your dough is too soft or too stiff. You need to pay attention the first few times you make a recipe so that you can adjust ingredients accordingly.
I love putting the ingredients in at night and then waking up to a just-finished-baking loaf of bread. It's awesome.
PROS: Attractive, easy to clean, simple operation, great selection of recipes, not that noisy
CONS: Aluminum shows every dent and ding easily, lid closure hits edge of machine if not being careful

Breadman TR2700 Stainless-Steel Programmable Convection Bread Maker Review

Breadman TR2700 Stainless-Steel Programmable Convection Bread Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been a breadmaker my entire life. There is nothing like the smell of baking bread as you walk in the door, especially on a cold winter day. The evolution of the bread machine was exciting for me. I remember the first bread machines with the tall, horizontal loaf pan that was somewhat less than exciting. Then, the "horizontal" loaf appeared. I own two of the first Breadman machines, TR845 with the horizonal loaf and as a "basic breadmaker" those are terrific. They are sturdy, relatively quiet for a breadmaker and the pan secures itself well within the machine. This model does not have all the cycles of more current models and it does not automatically add ingredients as do the TR2500, or Tr2700. However, it does offer a signal "beep" when to add ingredients such as raisons, or cranberries. I love to bake bread and give it away. I often have four breadmakers going at the same time during a holiday.
Last year I purchased the Breadman TR2500, Stainless and Black. Initially I was quite pleased with the performance. However, after several uses I did have problems with the bread pan releasing from the holders on each side requiring a bending and adjusting of the snap in prongs of both the pan and the breadmaker itself. I think this is because the stainless steel on the inside isn't quite as strong as with simple steel of the past models I have used. I LOVE THE COVECTION FEATURE. The first thing I noticed about adding convection to a breadmaker was the crust. The entire crust of the bread, not only the top is VERY CRISPY. For those of you who love to cut off the heel of a fresh loaf of bread and smear with butter, this is a dream (of course the heel is still the best part of the loaf). Now, I just aquired the newer model which is a TR2700. I have not had the problem with the pan coming loose from the holders in the machine as of yet and the inside is similar in construction to the TR2500? Both the TR2500 and the TR2700 make quite a bit more noise during the kneeding cycles which I think is due to the stainless steel construction vs. steel and plastic which I don't think conduct noise as well. Still, the TR2700 is still top notch and well worth the money if you love to make bread and would use it frequently. ONE TIP ON ALL BREADMACHINES. If you find that hole in the bottom of the bread annoying, or displeasing simply keep track of your cycle. After the machine has completed the second kneed going in to the last rise, simply reach in and take off the paddle. End result is a nice loaf with only a small hole from the hub of the paddle. Nice little trick and you won't ever mistakingly give a loaf away with the paddle stuck in it. OOPS, where's my bread paddle?, the next time you try making bread.

I have owned and used this breadmaker for 5 years now and there is no reason to get another one. The best part is it comes out with a loaf of bread that looks like a loaf of bread, not some tube of baked stuff.
This one is reliable.
As for making a good loaf of bread, one of the best hints I have found to follow is to measure your flour not by volume but by weight - a cup is 5 oz. This is what bakers do because all kinds of things can affect the volume of the flour you're measuring; moisture, settling, etc.

Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery 1-Pound-Loaf Programmable Mini Breadmaker Review

Zojirushi BB-HAC10 Home Bakery 1-Pound-Loaf Programmable Mini Breadmaker
Average Reviews:

The Zojirushi BB-HAC10 breadmaker is terrific for couples, singles, or apartment dwellers wanting a small loaf of bread (1 LB). While at first, its price may be offsetting, it is a fantastic device and made of high quality materials. Most breadmakers are too large and end up being stored in the closet, but this machine is small, sleek, and bakes perfect loaves of bread. It is the same width as my toaster and is small enough to keep out on an apartment kitchen counter. The loaves on regular cycles take between 3:40-3:00 to bake, but it has a timer and a "keep warm" feature. It is quiet and an 8-year old could easily operate its simple push button controls.
It has an even-heating element, and a good quality, heavy, non-stick baking pan, which is a snap to clean up. It has a pasta/cookie dough feature and a jam (!) feature. The tiny paddle is actually surprisingly efficient at making dough for cookies and such.
One caveat: It bakes a small, vertical loaf of bread and a 1 LB loaf is smaller than you think it is. So the "rounded" part on top takes up about 1/4 of the entire loaf. Also, your bottom slice will have a gaping hole where the paddle bakes into it. While this is not much of a problem for a large 2 LB loaf, for this small loaf, it is a bit of a waste.
We have had a Zojirushi since the early 90's and although we found it consistently made excellent bread, it wasn't getting used very often because it was large and the 2LB loaves simply weren't getting eaten. After downsizing, we found that this breadmaker is fabulous because it makes small enough loaves that you can experiment with tons of different recipes and throw away a botched recipe without feeling bad about waste.

Breadman TR520 Programmable Bread Maker for 1-, 1-1/2-, and 2-Pound Loaves Review

For the price, it's a pretty good bread machine. One thing I would add is this... If you are not using the brand of yeast recommended by Breadman, your results may not be good. Their recipes were tested using Red Star Yeast Active Dry Yeast. Not all yeasts will yield the same result. Know how the yeast you're using will perform.
I use an organic yeast, and when I used the amount recommended in the first white bread recipe, (1 Tbsp for a 2 lb loaf), the bread rose and fell. The taste was okay, but I knew when the loaf didn't dome, that the problem was too much yeast.
I used (1 3/4 tsp of organic yeast for a 1 1/2 lb loaf) for whole wheat bread, and it came out absolutely perfect. The bread was just as good as the whole wheat bread I used to purchase at the grocery store for $3.50 a loaf. Now that I know that I have to adjust the amount of yeast since I'm not using the one tested for their recipes, I am very happy with my machine. I would not use a bread machine for quick breads because I prefer to do them by hand. I will only use my machine for yeast breads.
I have experience using bread machines and I know how my yeast performs thru trial and error. A novice would not have known that there are differences in brands of Active Dry Yeast. Also, through experience, I know that the relative humidity will affect the outcome of your bread. Check your bread while it's kneading on a humid day to see if a little flour needs to be added, only adding a Tbsp at a time.

Breadman TR875 2-Pound Breadmaker, Stainless Steel Review

Breadman TR875 2-Pound Breadmaker, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this bread machine from Amazon because they had a nice sale on it about two weeks ago. It seemed like a good price for what looked like a decent machine, so I ordered it. I'm so glad that I did! I have made six loaves so far, all of which have come out perfectly. I tried two other, hand-me-down machines before this model, both of which burnt or did other crazy things to the loaves and so required tons of monitoring and adjustments. With this machine, though, it really IS as easy as throwing a few ingredients in the machine and pressing a button! So far I have made french bread, whole wheat bread, brown rice flour bread, irish potato brown bread, and more. The recipes that came with the machine work well, but I also picked up a few bread machine cookbooks for more variety.
In addition to making great bread, I love how quiet the machine is (like another reviewer, I kept checking to see whether it was working the first time). I also like that it's a little smaller than equivalent 2 lb. machines and so easily fits under kitchen cabinets, and I love the way it looks in my kitchen (it's not a huge, hideous white box!). There's a helpful fruit/nut add-in beep, the shape of the loaf is nicer than the other 2 machines I've used, and the finished bread easily slides out of the pan.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase. 5 stars!
Added 10/25/2007:
I am still so happy with this bread machine, so I had to come back and add to my review. Since I bought this more 6 months ago I have been using it often (at least 1 loaf a week) and I have never had a failure yet. In addition to loaves made with bread flour, I have made many loaves with 100% whole wheat flour (the majority of my loaves are 100% whole wheat) or other flours like spelt, rice, and oat, and all loves came out beautifully. This machine produces perfect, perfect bread! I now bring fresh bread to every dinner party I attend, and people are always so grateful.
In addition to homemade bread being delicious, I think it's much healthier, too: I love that I now know exactly what went into every loaf of bread I eat (i.e. no weird chemicals or additives, I can decrease the sugar or replace it with a natural sweetener like maple syrup, etc.). I would give this machine 10 stars if I could, I love it that much.
One helpful tip someone gave me was to buy The Bread Lover's Bread Machine Cookbook by Beth Hensperger. I use recipes from this book every time I bake bread, and they always come out beautifully. I'm sure there are lots of other good bread machine cookbooks, but this is by far the best one I've tried.
UPDATE 09/04/2010:
3.5 years later, I STILL love this bread machine! My Breadman TR875 is still going strong, as of September 2010 with no problems at all. I made a loaf of whole wheat bread in it just yesterday, in fact :) In 3.5 years of near weekly use, I've had zero loaf failures, and zero merchanical problems. The machine has held up perfectly cosmetically, as well. Overall this has been a truly excellent, reliable machine - I remain thrilled with my purchase, and would absolutely recommend this bread machine to anyone.

My wife has Celiac disease and a good gluten free bread is impossible to find ready made. We must bake our own bread if she is going to have a bread that tastes good. We have found the bread mix from Gluten Free Pantry is great. but our old bread machine, a Breadman Ultimate was not turning out a consistant product. It was less than a year old and quit working. Which turned out to be a blessing. Based on our experience with other Cuisinart products and the reviews on Amazon we decided on the Cusinart CBK-100. The gluten free cycle is perfect. It bakes the best gluten free bread we have ever had. We have used Gluten free pantry Sandwich bread mix and also Bob's Red Mill gluten free multigrain mix. WOW! THe bread is so good that I even like it. This bread is light and the crust is perfect. It even is easier to slice. If you are looking for a bread maker that turns out excelent gluten free bread this is the one to buy

Mix-Ins:During the last 8 minutes of the second kneading cycle for several on selected programs an audible signal of 5 short beeps will sound to remind you to add any additional ingredients your recipe requires (such as nuts and seeds, raisins and dried fruits, shredded chesses, chocolate morsels).
After Mixing/Kneading is completed there will be an audible signal of 6 short beeps, before the last rise cycle, indicating the point at which the mixing/kneading is complete. At this point in the bread making process you have the option of removing the kneading paddle, to avoid a small hole in the bottom of your baked loaf, and/or re-shaping the dough, though neither is necessary.
After Breadmaking There will be a series of 15 beeps to signal the end of the baking cycle: the bread display window will read 00:00 and the unit will be in the Warm Cycle.Your bread will be kept warm for 60 minutes to prevent it from becoming soggy. For optimal results, we recommend removing the loaf as soon as the baking cycle is complete and letting it cool on a baking rack. All breads slice best when allowed to cool for a minimum of 30 minutes before slicing.
