Nesco FS-150PR Professional 150-Watt Food Slicer Review

Nesco FS-150PR Professional 150-Watt Food Slicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With this Item there are some pluses and some minuses. On the plus side it has a powerfull enough motor to slice chesses, which some slicers dont recommend and cleanup is a whiz. On the minus side, the material the slicer is made of drags a bit on the item sliced, sometimes making slices uneven. The grim reality of life is that meats and cheeses slide easier over plastic than they do over aluminum or steel. This problem likely exists with most slicers made of steel and aluminum, so dont discount this item becaues of this review. The easy cleanup is a good tradeoff for the functionality issues. Overall, for a slicer that I use every other week im satisfied with the purchase, but just a bit disappointed with the the function. My old plastic krupps slicer sliced thinner, although much more difficult to clean.

This slicer is way too small for slicing bread. It did not open wide enough to get around the 1 lb loaf from my bread machine. I was not able to use it. Maybe it is better with meat.

Only 4 stars, would be 5 if blade was shorter! Again, it is great for lefthanded (as advertised), but only using it for bagels, muffins, etc. I am happy with workmanship, definitely a great buy. Great idea for gift giving to those of us who are lefthanded, makes slicing easier. Glad to find this item on Amazon, plus perfect shipping! Thanks again.

LamsonSharp 39656 Rosewood Stamped 10" Offset Bread Knife, serrated Review

LamsonSharp 39656 Rosewood Stamped 10 Offset Bread Knife, serrated
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been looking for a serrated knife to replace one that was no longer sharp and wasn't worth trying to sharpen. I happened to see this one favorably reviewed in the Cooks Illustrated magazine and thought I would give it a try.
I am by no means an expert with knives, but I do know works and doesn't work for me. This knife has quickly become one of my favorites. I have used it to cut bread, softer foods like tomatoes, and to carve turkeys; the knife has made quick work of all of them. I particularly like the offset handle so that my knuckles aren't rubbing against the cutting board at the end. This and my chef's knife are the only ones I have been using lately. Good knives can be very expensive but I think this one is moderately priced at $50.
There are two things that I would change however; the first is that I would prefer the knife to not have a wooden handle -- that's a personal preference because I prefer to put the knives in the dishwasher. The second is that I would have liked the blade to be a little more substantial. This company does offer these options at a higher price.
Overall I am pleased with the performance and the value of the knife.

I like my knife and crumb tray but I would like the crumb tray better if were not all warped! Because it is not at all level, it is hard to cut all the way through the bread. The knife is great though.
I did not use the tray until after I had thrown away the box and invoice because I knew I wanted it and, truthfully, I did not even think about the possibility of warping. My loss.

Adjustable Bread Keeper Review

The breadkeeper (as seen on TV) is plastic and originally arrived cracked. It wasn't very well packaged. I requested an received info to return it, and it was replaced within about 2 weeks, well packaged. It's an OK breadkeeper/slicer guide, but I'm not thrilled with it. I bake my own bread, no preservatives, and it doesn't keep it as fresh as my breadsack. I do use the slicer guide that came with it to slice more evenly, and not thin on top and thick at the bottom or vice versa. For the cost, it's an OK deal. And the service was good.

Bread and Bagel Slicer Guide (Clear) (6"H x 6" W x 9"D) Review

Bread and Bagel Slicer Guide (Clear) (6H x 6 W x 9D)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have never tried any other brand of bread slicer, but this one did everything I wanted it to do with no problem at all.
The slices came out to be from 1/2" to 3/4" thick, so they fit okay into my toaster. The clear acrylic is strong so the bottom doesn't get cut in any way. There are a few crumbs left on the counter after the bread slicing, but they are easily brushed away into the sink for disposal.
The bread knife I used has an 18" long blade, which fit perfectly into the slots and across the bread. One would probably need a blade that long to slice the bread. I found that after slicing across a few times, I could just pressure the blade downward to complete the job.
It is not a bulky item, attractive and easily stored, and comes with a bagel slicing insert as well. Can be put in a dishwasher (I'd go for the top rack). However, it rinses easily to get it totally clean.
Can't think of anything to criticise. A great compliment to my new Zojirushi Breadmaking Machine, which is terrific as well. I really lucked out in this experimemental segment of my life!!!

I make home made bread alot. Problem with current knife? I can't get the slices thin enough for sandwiches, and the bread crumbles, or squishes or.....This slicer is amazing! It actually slices thinner than any knife I have ever owned! Finally sandwich slices (1/2" or less) instead of irregular thick slices. I own a knife with a slicing guide ("magic knife") and its good for meat, but not so much for bread as it won't slice thin without a mess. This blade is razor thin and cuts through hot or cooled bread so easily you will be shocked. Don't hesitate to get it!

Norpro Acrylic Bread Slicer Review

Norpro Acrylic Bread Slicer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this slicer primarily because I bake breads at home quite often and I wanted something I could use to make even slices. I have to say I'm disappointed in the flimsy nature of the acryllic fingers, which guide the knife through the bread. While attempting to slice a loaf of bread, the fingers seem to bend and are easily maneuvered out of joint by the sawing of the bread knife through the loaf. I always fear, each time I use the slicer, that the fingers are going to snap off with one thrust.
Another drawback to this design is the lack of a "guide press" to hold the bread in place while slicing. The design of the slicer is such that one puts the loaf to be sliced against the acryllic sides and must hold the loaf in place with one hand while attempting to slice with the other hand. One needs a third hand in order to hold the slicer in place and a forth to hold the fingers in place so they don't bend and snap with the natural sawing motion of the bread knife. I have, as of yet, to get 2 equally measured slices of bread while cutting.
Now, after all that, does the bread slicer do what it says it's going to do? Yes ... it just does so in a flimsier manner than I'd expected. Rubber feeting on the bottom of the unit, sturdier acrylic fingers and a press to hold the bread still while between the slots would improve this design vastly.

Crumbs fall neatly into removable catcher so no messy bread crumbs all over the table or counter. The bread slicer is approximately 6.25" wide and large enough to handle all sorts of loaf sizes. Each slice will be uniform .5" wide. The non adjustable slots ensure that all the bread slices are perfect.

I bought this knife for my husband's birthday present. I bake all our bread and my husband cuts it all. This is a lovely knife, great for displaying, VERY sharp and works well on cooled bread. We both like the lifetime warranty that comes with the knife. The wood is beautiful and has a lustrous finish. I don't think the pictures do justice to the item's actual appearance. I feel it was well worth the price paid.
That said, I want to let you know why I rated it a 4 instead of a 5. My husband found it doesn't work well on that still-warm-from-the oven loaf. Since the serrations are rather large and far apart, on the freshest loaves the knife tends to tear rather than cut the slices. This seems a small thing over which to lose a star, but 5 of 5 stars should be reserved for near perfection. The issue of the fresh bread means this isn't a perfect knife. It's a small issue for us because we have another bread knife that cuts the still-warm loaves, but another purchaser might not, and would have this issue.

Bread Slicer, Polished Stainless Steel Guide and Maple Wood Bread Board
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was the slicer we were hoping someone would make. After using this, we've thrown away both the wooden box and the plastic slicer we've used.
The construction is durable, with the heft of solid maple giving a feel of quality as well as real beauty. Once we got a coat of mineral oil on it, the grain came alive and was even more beautiful. The stainless steel is sturdy and polished to a mirror finish with no sharp edges at all. They guide the knife nicely - and you don't end up with any plastic shavings in your bread that so often accompanied our previous products. The cut is straight, although a long knife is required as with any other slicer. Its function is rivaled only with its aesthetic quality. We always felt the plastic cutting guides looked so cheap and cheesy that we had to hide them in the cupboard. We leave this one counter with pride.
This slicer is the best thing since...well...home-baked bread.
