(More customer reviews)I could not do without this product. I have made not only Quesadilla's but also pancakes, omlets, sandwiches, and I am still looking at more recipes. It takes only 2 mintues for a thick pancake compared to on a stovetop. My only negative on this unit is that if you use butter it is very messy and hard to cleanup. If this had removeable plates it would be a 5 star in my book. Well worth the $20 I paid for it.

Bake favorite quesadilla recipes right at home in just minutes with this easy-to-use quesadilla maker. Simply place a flour tortilla on the nonstick grill, then add ingredients like shredded cheese, salsa, and shredded or thinly sliced pieces of cooked meat, poultry, or vegetables. Cover with another flour tortilla, and close the lid. For best results, fillings should be spread as evenly as possible, up to a 1/2-inch from the edge of the tortilla so that the edges can seal together. The countertop appliance works great not only for making quesadillas, but also for soft tacos, omelets, fajitas, pancakes, pita-bread sandwiches, and much more. Remove cooked items using a plastic or wooden spatula to help protect the nonstick surface. An automatic "ready" light indicates when the unit has reached the correct cooking temperature, and cool-touch handles makes it possible to raise or lower the lid without the need for an oven mitt. To clean, wipe the lid, base, and cooking plates with a damp cloth and towel dry. The unit can be compactly stored using the convenient cord-storage compartment and by standing it in a vertical position. (More customer reviews)With these pans, I feel like I am taking a walk back in time. I grew up with pans similar to these and love them. I know they are the old fashioned type which have to be seasoned, but once seasoned and if cared for properly, they will last generations. Just don't wash them in soap and water and never put them in a dishwasher. After you use them, clean them with hot water and dry thoroughly. Then they are ready to use again.

The lid raises smoothly with the feeling that it is weighted (since it's constructed of sturdy stainless steel) and the opaque section of the curved lid adds even more to its good looks. The handle is modern and sleek and is attached to the stainless lower section of the lid below the opaque section. It also has enough capacity to hold several items without crowding and its size is not at all unwieldy like most breadboxes. It has 4 very small rubber feet on the botton so it will not scratch surfaces and the weight is perfect I had been looking a very long time for a stylish breadbox and had failed until now. I couldn't have been happier at finding it. I have received several compliments and those people have shown interest in buying one also. I first saw this item when on vacation in Ireland and tried to obtain it on the WMF website when I returned home. I had difficulty navigating the website as it was in German so I entered "stainless steel breadbox" on Google and was directed to Amazon.com directly to the product I was searching for!

(More customer reviews)Yes, these bannetons do lend an interesting look to the loaf of bread, but its function is its value to bakers. It was/is used primarily for breads leavened with a natural yeast/bacterial culture. Breads made with these cultures ferment over a long period of time, and produce acids and alcohol which weaken the gluten structure of the bread. This results in a flatter loaf. These baskets are used to support the shape of a round loaf in the case of this round 'boule' basket. The loaf is turned out and immediately slid on a stone (or pan) and baked, scored or not. The idea of cleaning them is not very practical. I have used them for years and never clean them. If they build up too much flour, I use a paring knife to scrape out the dried bits in the grooves and start over. It is kind of like seasoning an iron skillet. If you don't get it wet and reuse it with the flour in it, your bread will stick less and less each time, until you can simply invert the dough onto your peel with no coaxing. This allows you to bake using much wetter doughs. So, my rating is a 5 star, because of its essential function for perfect loaves on pain au levain boules.
