I got this as a wedding gift, and I was amazed at how much of a difference it makes in the kitchen! Good knives make cooking such an enjoyable experience, and Wusthof is well-known to be one of the best out there. The 8-piece set is perfect for people who want to start with a good set and build up on it. Of course I use the chef's knife the most, but I also use the bread knife and paring knife a lot too. I think a santoku knife would be a nice addition to this set, and perhaps steak knives would be wonderful to fill in the 6 slots on the bottom of the block, but in terms of practicality, I never feel like I need more than what I already have (but this is coming from a person who is a beginner in the kitchen). I have been using my knives for about 1 1/2 years now, and the knives are still as sharp as they were when we first bought it. I'm sure we will have to sharpen them eventually, but with good care I expect these to last a very long time.

Known worldwide for their superior performance, Wusthof knives are the cutlery of choice among many professionals and by discriminating amateur chefs. The Classic series features a traditional styling that makes it the most popular of the Wusthof lines. The blades are formed with the perfect balance of high-carbon steel and a stain-resistant alloy so they retain their edge longer and are easier to resharpen. The blade is ground and polished by computer, ensuring perfect tapering from bolster to tip, and the edge is then hand-honed for precision slicing. The sturdy feel of the knives is achieved by the weighted bolster, Wusthof's signature feature. The tang runs through synthetic handles and is secured with three rivets.
This eight-piece set has all the kitchen cutlery basics for everyday use. The set includes an 8-inch chef’s knife, a 6-inch sandwich knife, an 8-inch serrated bread knife, a 4-1/2-inch utility knife, and a 3-1/2-inch paring knife. A pair of kitchen shears and a 9-inch sharpening steel complete the set. Everything fits neatly into the rubber-footed oak block, which has space to add six more steak knives and two more prep knives.
What's in the Box 8-inch cook's knife; 6-inch sandwich knife; 8-inch serrated bread knife; 4-1/2-inch utility knife; 3-1/2-inch paring knife; kitchen shears; 9-inch sharpening steel; rubber-footed oak block with eight extra slots.

Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Deli Knife Review

I put off puchasing this knife for a long time, I knew I wanted it and it would make sandwich cutting a bit easier and I wouldnt bang my knuckles on the board anymore, but I procrastinated and put it off.
Now that I have this knife, I am disapointed I allowed myself to wait this long. This knife is amazing. It is not just a fancier version of the bread knife. This thing is in a whole different class when it comes to cutting breads. My old bread knife (also a Wushtof) is like trying to use a butter knife when compared to using this one. Add to that the benefit of it being more comfortable and the offset making it easier to use, and you have a real winner in this knife.
This knife puts a regular bread knife to shame and, unlike your bread knife, can be used for more than just cutting bread. The name Deli Knife is perfect for this knife. It cuts cheeses and hard deli meats effortlessly. It will blaze through a tall deli sandwich effortlessly without crushing it. Cuts soft and crusty breads with ease.
The only drawback I found with this knife is that it wont fit in the slot in my knife block that has now been vacated by my bread knife.
Unbelievably, this knife is now one of my favorites.

Wusthof 4109-7 Classic 5-Inch Tomato Knife Review

When I began collecting Wusthof-Trident Classic knives twenty years ago, I chose the basics first: cook's knives, parers, slicers, utility knives, steak knives, boning & filet knives. I acquired them one or two at a time, always on sale, because this cutlery has been an expensive investment. When Wusthof added a tomato knife to this line, I bought it even though I wasn't sure if I would like it or use it a lot. Now I recommend this 5-inch tomato knife to everyone. Its serrated edge hasn't needed sharpening ever, and it cuts, slices, dices, and chops fresh tomatoes so quickly. The forked tip is great for taking out the stem ends of tomatoes. I've never used my tomato knife on anything other than tomatoes, which is why I think it has stayed so sharp. I use my 8-inch serrated bread knife for slicing bagels and breads, and my 5-inch serrated utility knife for cutting citrus and other fruit. Also, I hand-wash and dry this knife and keep it stored in a wooden block.

This handy knife makes short work of peeling small lemons and limes, zipping through Kaiser rolls and baguettes, and slicing German sausage???in addition to doing a superb job of slicing tomatoes. In other words, this is the perfect knife for sweeping through double-textured foods with hard exteriors and delicate interiors.Made of nearly-rigid, scallop-edged, no-stain steel, the 5-in. blade has a nice, two-pronged tip for spearing and transferring new slices from board to plate; its full tang contributes balance and leverage.Wusthof's newest state of the art technology incorporates a new computer controlled method for putting the edge on Classic knives. This technology allows for an exacting edge from the tip of the knife down to the heel of the knife. With this newer precision, the knives are made sharper to 14 degrees per side for a total of 28 degrees. The knives are now sharper and this refinement increases the sharpness retention because exacting angles and edges last longer than edges sharpened by hand. The result is a knife that is 30% sharper and the ICP (Initial Cutting Performance) lasts twice as long.
