Oxo Good Grips 8-Inch Chef Knife Review

Oxo Good Grips 8-Inch Chef Knife
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are 3 main reasons people cut themselves with knives: 1) bad technique, 2) bad knife handle, 3) dull knife blade (you have to struggle to cut and then you slip). This knife solve the knife handle problem wonderfully. It also should give you no problem with sharpness if you have a knife sharpener. This is not one of the great chef's blades that can have a lot of use before requiring resharpening.
If you have a good French Chef knife and have no problem with the handle (some are just so big and hard to grip!), do not bother with this knife. If you need a decent Chef knife and are willing to sharpen it occasionally, this is a good buy. (You have to sharpen ANY knife eventually.)
I am a quadriplegic/tetraplegic (C5-6 if you care) and I love this knife. Not for its mediocre blade, but for its handle. I have 1/3 use of my hands and 1/2 use of my arms, but I have no problem using the grippy handle on this knife. I own an expensive French Chef knife with a BETTER BLADE, but I use this one far more often because of the BETTER HANDLE.
My Mom has mild arthritis and she loves this knife, too.

When you've got veggies to slice, chop or dice no manual tool works more efficiently than a chef's knife. This one by OXO is an excellent choice for anyone who has problems with grip strength, thanks to its soft, over-sized non-slip handle.

I have purchased this item for myself and as gifts. It is beautiful and functional. I keep mine on my counter as a fruit basket but have also used it as a bread basket. You can heat or cool the basket depending on your desired usage. It's a nice product.

Linden Sweden Twixit Clip Bag Sealers, Set of 27 Assorted Review

Linden Sweden Twixit Clip Bag Sealers, Set of 27 Assorted
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I discovered clips for plastics bags when I lived in Stockholm for several months during 1987. About ten years ago, I found this Swedish brand -- Twixit -- here in the U.S. and bought a couple of packages. I've been using them ever since for any number of things and I'd hate to do without them. They make a tight seal -- the small clips are great for bags you twist and clip, such as bread bags or the ones fresh carrots come in. The largest ones work nicely on the plastic bags inside cereal boxes. One of my favorite things is buying those inexpensive plastic bags that don't have any kind of built-in closures (1 gallon capacity) and come with those annoying twist-ties with the wire up the middle of the plastic strip. With these clips, those cheap plastic bags are way more versatile than the expensive ones with a "zip" closure.
The largest ones will even close a papery bag of Pepperidge Farm cookies tightly -- and nothing else I know of will do that well.
They not only seal tightly, but they last for a very long time. All my original clips still work, but I have enough of them in use now that I needed to buy some more and the place I got them from before no longer sells them. I also needed more of the smallest size because I use more of them than the medium and large clips. So finding them here was a godsend.
Leave to the Swedes to come up with something as practical and as excellent as these clips!

Oxo Good Grips Dough Blender Review

Oxo Good Grips Dough Blender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I do a lot of baking; a lot of different types of baking and therefore need good equipment that is not going to break my piggy bank. I have owned several dough blenders (still have them in the baking section of my kitchen) but found this Oxo brand to be the best of the litter. It fits my hand perfectly and for those of you who do a lot of work with these utensils know, this is very important. Nothing like a good hand cramp to set your day off just right. I suspect that this company has put in quite a lot of research as to the workings of the human hand and they pretty well have it nailed with this product.
The blades of this one (five) are quite stout and do not bend and flex as most do. I hate flimsy utensils, so this one was a real pleasure when I started using it. As to the sturdiness, this one if far superior to the Wilton, Pampered Chief or Anco...there is just no comparison. Trust me, I have used them all.
There are some considerations though. As pointed out by one reviewer, this mixer is not compatible with smaller bowls. I use rather large and heavy mixing bowls so do not have that problem myself, but I can see were some might have. Secondly, cleaning by hand is a chore. I have found the best way to clean this thing up is to soak it for a bit and then simply throw it in the dishwasher. I usually like to hand wash all my equipment, but in this case I go for the washer. The other way I have used is the simple use of a longer bristled kitchen brush.
As an added tip, this is a good tool to make thin butter patties with and to slice eggs for salads..a very nice even cut.
If you do a large amount of "scratch" baking, then this one is going to make life a lot easier for you.

Cutting butter or margarine into flour for great pie and pastry crusts is easier than ever with this heavy-duty dough blender from Oxo. Designed with sturdy stainless-steel blades, the dough blender makes quick, efficient work of preparing crumb toppings and pastries. The broad, soft handle absorbs pressure and is non-slip for a secure grip. The kitchen tool measures 5 by 5-1/4 by 2 inches and is safe to clean in the dishwasher.

Oxo Good Grips POP Storage Containers Review

Oxo Good Grips POP Storage Containers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overview:
I have purchased many of these storage containers, in various sizes. As with most OXO products, I have been extremely satisfied with them, and I would buy them again. More importantly, my wife appears to be equally impressed with her gift.
That being said, I don't think they would work as well for everyone, as they do for us. They are expensive, and they are not necessarily the best choice for a home with small children. As such, I will provide you with my observations, and leave it up to you to decide how they would fit into your personal lifestyle.
The pros:
They seal flawlessly, and with great ease. I believe they are the best product available for keeping the freshness in, and the bugs out. They stack nicely, and their clear siding permits easy identification of the contents within. Their rounded corners make pouring a breeze.
These containers come in a variety of sizes, and meet all of our kitchen dry-storage needs. They work for everything from baking goods, to cereals and crackers, to bread. Yes, the two largest container sizes can hold a normal-sized loaf of bread, and keep it fresh for much longer.
They have really helped organize the pantry, which looks great, and makes it much easier to evaluate how much of a product requires replentishment, prior to shopping.
The cons:
First, many of them (especially the larger sizes) are not packaged well for shipping, and they have arrived in broken condition. Fortunately, Amazon Customer Service has promptly replaced them, without delay. To me, the long-term convenience far outweighs the short-term frustration.
Second, we have not broken any of them after delivery, but we are also quite careful in their handling. I'm not sure how well they would do with small children, so be advised before you invest. I suspect a single drop on the hard kitchen floor would result in a damaged container, but I am not willing to test my hypothesis at this price.
Third, they are not dishwasher safe, except for the silicon sealing ring. For us, this has not been a major issue, but it may be a problem for others. Personally, we have found their non-pourous construction to be easy to clean, so we don't mind hand washing them.
Pre-purchase planning:
Be aware that for stacking purposes, the containers come in three shapes (from the top view): small-square shape, large-square shape, and rectangular shape. While you can sometimes mix them for stacking, in general, I find that it is best to stick to one shape (for a particular stack).
Also, be aware that you get more bang-for-the-buck with the larger sizes. The relationship between the price of the container and the volume of storage is indirect. In short, less storage costs you more money.
In general, I find the large-square shape and the rectangular shape to be the most beneficial. They permit easy access, and they allow the buyer more options regarding what to put in them. That being said, understand that the prepackaged sets tend to come with a lot of the small-square shaped containers.
The smallest sizes have limited functionality, but can be useful for storing raisons, small candies, etc. As for the spices mentioned by the manufacturer, spices usually come in a bottle. For those that don't, I believe there are better (and cheaper) products available.
Summary:
For those willing to deal with the shipping issues, the risk of future breakage, and the hand-washing, I think this is by far the best product on the market. With care, they will save you money in the long-run because: they keep things fresh, they keep the bugs out, and they make it easy to avoid the over-buying or the under-buying of groceries. They are a quality product, and they make the kitchen look great.
Whether you want to buy many of them or just a few, I generally recommend the larger sizes. They provide the best bang-for-the-buck, and permit greater flexibility. Specifically, I would start with a few of the large-square types to see if you like them as much as I do.
Thank you for those who posted before me. Much of what I have said consolidates what you mentioned before, and really helped with my purchasing decisions. For those of you still stuck in the decision-making process; good luck! I hope this helps out a little.

I was a bit concerned about ordering this product after reading the earlier review. This knife feels good in the hand. It does a great job on bread. As a bonus, in this season (late Sept.) of wonderful, ripe tomatoes, it does a great job of clean cutting even soft tomatoes.
I had originally tried a higher-rated (from a leading cooking magazine) bread knife by Forschner. R H. Forschner by Victorinox 10-1/4-Inch Curved Blade Bread Knife, Black Fibrox Handle The problem with that knife was that it is too large to be comfortable to use with a smaller hand, and it won't fit most knife racks except in the one slot reserved for your big chef's knife.

Oxo 73281 OXO Good Grips Pastry Scraper
Average Reviews:

Update 8/25/07: I love this so much that I bought a second one! Now I have one for baking and another for everything else. When I cook big meals, I tire of having to rewash it.
This is my second bench scraper. The first was a single sheet of metal that curved to form a handle. The measurements were painted on it. I probably paid $3 for it. After repeated use and trips to the diswasher, the measurements began to wear off and the bottom started to get uneven.
I am so thankful for this version by OXO! There's the obvious sturdy handle, but what I love the most is that the measurements are etched instead of painted. I have to have the measurements because I use bench scrapers to measure the thicknes of dough in addition to cutting product (you'll never cut brownies or bars again with a knife) and cleaning the board. This product is a lot heavier than my previous version and I like the weighty feel.
Dishwasher safe.

A great kitchen tool offering a wide variety of uses, the pastry scraper is mainly designed to scrape and split bread dough as you work with it on a board. Durably made with a stainless-steel blade and a wide, comfortable nonslip rubber handle, the tool is comfortable to hold and work with. Cleanup is easy since the scraper is dishwasher safe.
