I received this mixer yesterday for Christmas from my kids. Then I read the above review and I got a little aprehensive. Today I telephoned this number 1-800-541-6390 to ask about the attachments for this model mixer. She answered several questions and she gave me the numbers of appliance models that are compatible with the K4SS mixer. The wire whip model number is K5AW. The attachments with model numbers KSM500 and K5SS will all fit the K4SS mixer. Hope this helps.

KitchenAid FGA Stand Mixer Attachment, Food Grinder Review

KitchenAid FGA Stand Mixer Attachment, Food Grinder
Average Reviews:

I like to make my own sausage, so this, plus the sausage stuffing attachment, was a great addition to the kitchen.
Some things to make the grinding go easier:
1) Chill the meat cubes in the freezer for 30 minutes or so. If the meat is completely defrosted, it can gum-up the inside a bit (easily resolved). Having the meat cubes a little "stiffer" lets it grind easier.
2) Don't power your mixer up to "10". This is a slower process. I use the max speed or "stir" or maybe as high as a 1 or 2. This keeps the grind even and you won't overheat your mixer.
Cleaning can be a bit of a pain. I unfold a paper clip and use the wire to dig out some of the meat, rinse and then let the dishwasher do the rest.

KitchenAid FVSFGA Fruit/Vegetable Strainer and Food Grinder for Stand Mixers Review

KitchenAid FVSFGA Fruit/Vegetable Strainer and Food Grinder for Stand Mixers
Average Reviews:

This gizmo makes the shortest work of making applesauce you ever imagined. You slice the apples, cook in a large pan with a small amount of water until they are soft. Then you push the apple mush, skins, seeds, core, stems, etc. in the top of the food grinder, and out the sieve part comes pure applesauce, out the end, comes the seeds, skin and stem. It takes maybe 10 minutes to process a 16qt pot of cooked apples.
I usually get every burner on my stove going, heat the pots of apples, process the mush into sauce, then can the lot. The canning part takes the longest.
Anyway if you can apple sauce, you need this tool.

These are very lightweight, poorly constructed pans. one of the round ones was so thin, that it has holes right through at the bend between the side wall and the bottom. I did not even bother to return because they were so cheap. I would not recommend them to anyone.

KitchenAid K45SBWH Bowl for Pivot Head Stand Mixer Review

KitchenAid K45SBWH Bowl for Pivot Head Stand Mixer
Average Reviews:

Having an extra bowl (or two) is a good thing. So many recipes call for beaten egg yolks and whipped egg whites to be folded together. Without two bowls you have to take the time to pour the one you whip first into another bowl, clean the Kitchenaid bowl, and then whip the next ingredient.
I often make a couple of batches of bread at once. The extra bowl allows me to mix the batches of bread and leave them rise right in the Kitchenaid bowls.
Some cakes have a separate filling and a frosting. Two bowls makes that "a piece if cake."
The handle is especially good when the bowl is wet or greasy.
I cook a lot. The extra bowl I have is well worth the price. I'll be buying another (3rd bowl) soon.

KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers Review

KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used this attachment more times than I ever thought I would. I've used it to prepare food items for my family as well as food items for crowds as large as 200 and regardless of what it is I've been making, this attachment has rolled through it without complaint. In combination with other pieces such as the sausage stuffer or the fruit attachments, you may well find that this single attachment stays on your machine the longest.
I am absoultely stunned at how easy it is to put together and how simple it is to get wonderfully ground items out of it. I've had no trouble grinding any cut of meat (marbled or lean), type of meat (venison, beef, pork, chicken), or state of meat (cooked or raw). Things like chickpeas also get ground just the way I like them. The two, differently sized grinding plates give you just what you need in texture. My biggest pleasure in using this attachment is during hunting season when my husband brings home more than one deer. Venison burger meat and sausage processing never went faster. No more late nights with a hand-crank grinder!
When you're done, there's nothing simpler in the cleanup. Nothing seems to stick to the plastic (plus, it's dishwasher safe!) and the metal pieces wash up quickly by hand. Even the little wooden stomper cleans well (and I've felt lost without it when I couldn't find it during sausage making). I think this attachment is the easiest to use of all of the ones I've tried.
I'll never regret the purchase of this attachment.

KitchenAid Spiral Dough Hooks Review

KitchenAid Spiral Dough Hooks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Unfortunately, these reviews are not all distinguishing between the "burnished steel" and the "coated". There is a big difference. As a professional baker I use both the KitchenAid 4.5-qt and the 6-qt at home for product development. While I recommend the spiral hook as compared to the "c" hook (I have both) I do not recommend the burnished finish. Last week while I was down with the flu the burnished hook and flat beater were put into our dishwasher by mistake. They oxidized so badly that both are now a complete loss. After trying to clean them with various products and methods I called KitchenAid to see if there was anything I could do. They said "buy a replacement". Once the finish is destroyed you risk getting aluminum (lots!) into your product which is extremely unhealthy.
I also have the coated hook and the flat beater for my 4.5-qt and in ten years my only problem has been a very small spot on the beater that is beginning to wear through the coating and will need to be replaced soon.(The coating seems to be some sort of plastic coating with metal underneath.) This can be avoided by making sure it's not hitting the bowl anywhere. (You can call KitchenAid for help in making this adjustment if necessary.) I agree with another reviewer that it would be nice to get these attachments in stainless steel. But at one time KithcheAid was manufactured by Hobart, the leader in commercial mixers, and even they only make the attachments in aluminum (albeit a much high quality aluminum!).
In summary: I recommend the spiral hook over the c hook. I find the dough will still climb up the hook when kneading a lower volume of dough (under 2 lbs)in the 6-qt. (I do not recommend making dough in the Classic, 4.5-qt, as it will eventually burn out the smaller 250 watt motor.) The spiral hook is the same style as most professionals use (and I use in my bakehouse) as it provides a much better and uniform kneading action. But avoid the burnished steel if at all possible. One mistake into the dishwasher will cost you!

KitchenAid K45DH Dough Hook Replacement for KSM90 and K45 Stand Mixer Review

KitchenAid K45DH Dough Hook Replacement for KSM90 and K45 Stand Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love, love, love our Kitchenaid mixer, but I'm not thrilled with the quality of the dough hooks - I'm about to order our 3rd in less than 12 months. The enamel cracks on the end of the hook, and I'm afraid that using it risks chips of enamel ending up in the finished dough. Granted - they're only $15 to replace, but I don't feel like I should need to replace it so frequently... I'd happily pay quite a bit for a stainless steel one.
