(More customer reviews)now that i finally got a super sharp edge on my old and heavy 10" chef's knife, i thought it would be nice to stick it somewhere other than on top of the drawer tray. i also have a long skinny 10" that never gets dull. i have recently bought an 8" forschner/victorinox chef's knife (5 stars). time for a storage solution.
got this block this afternoon. looks cool, BUT ! my 2 chef's knifes did not fit the block's two large slots. blades bottomed out short of fully inserting, with about 2" to 3" of blade sticking out. i decided to open the tops of the slots to get the knives to nest properly. my trusty bosch jig saw with a hacksaw blade deepened and widened the top twoslots. then i found on the old heavy, the blade back was too thick to go all the way in the slot. more jigsawing. problems solved.
gave this block a third star cause the price was most bearable. maybe henckels knives are thin. also with amazon's price, free shipping and no sales tax, i don't mind not supporting the box stores to buy stuff like this.
suggest that henckels or amazon would state the clearance dimensions of these slots.

Dull cutlery is dangerous cutlery. One of the easiest ways to maintain sharp edges on your fine cutlery is to store the knives in a block. An added benefit is that your knives are conveniently ready and waiting for the next time you need to carve a roast or julienne some veggies.
