You can do two burger patties with this, which can not be said of several of the other brands. It is pre-seasoned, something that I did not see in the others. The weight is good. Works for panini, steak, burgers, grilled cheese and other sandwiches....enjoy!

Like fine china from times gone by this is a wonderful set. Whether you start with a few pieces and add on every year or start with a full setting it is a great holiday tradition. We use ours for all our special meals from Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve. Lenox has added some wonderful service pieces over the last few years as well. One of my favorites is a two bowl set with seal tight lids. The bowls are refrig, dishwaher, oven and microwave safe. The lids when on will not spill a drop and look lovely on the table. (They do lack the gold trim of the other pieces so they can be more go in the microwave, etc). Another plus is that most every department store carries it so it is easy to find and is always on sale before and after the holidays. You can spice it up with the plaid accent plates or the scenic dessert plate set - all are beautiful. I hope you enjoy them as much as we have.

The festive Lenox holly design has become one of the most familiar and beloved family traditions of the holiday season. Handcrafted of ivory fine china, the gold-banded Holiday pattern is distinguished by its graceful holly and berries motif. A beautiful tradition since 1974.

Farberware Pro Stainless-Steel 15-Piece Fine-Edge Knife Set with Block, Black Review

Had the knives two weeks, and was really impressed by the look feel and cut. However, after a couple of washes, rust spots began appearing. I suppose if I washed them all by hand and dried them off right away instead of air drying this wouldn't have happened(my fault..(?) ). I expected better, since I've had cheap K-mart knives for 10 years that didn't rust. I contacted farberware and they did say that if I return the rusted knives they would exchange them, with a turn around time of 6-8 weeks.

Sunbeam 3916 Heritage Series 2-Slice Toaster, Stainless Steel Review

REVISION (11/25/07): I bought this toaster over a year ago and I'm surprised to read all the terrible recent reviews. This toaster has worked like a dream for me over the past year. It toasts bread perfectly and evenly. Zero complaints, I love it.
MY REVIEW: My old toaster worked fine, but it was hideous white plastic that was ridiculously hard to clean. So I got on Amazon to check out the selection. This Sunbeam toaster caught my attention right away because the price was right and it's a replica of my Grandma's old workhorse of a toaster that functioned like a champ.
I was giddy when my new toaster arrived and it was even better looking than I hoped. It's lighter weight than my Grandma's old Sunbeam, but it's 40+ years later, so what do you expect?
The first thing I toasted was bread for actual toast. I pushed down on the lever and the bread wouldn't stay down. I immediately thought my toaster was a piece of junk and broken. I fiddled around and figured out that you have press down gently on the lever for it to stay down. (My old toaster was so ghetto that you had to slam down the lever, so I didn't know any better.) My toast turned out perfect and one of the coolest things about this toaster is that it has an extra leverage function that lifts the toasted items a little higher so you don't have to stick your fingers into the slots.
Just an awesome toaster and it's a huge upgrade to my kitchen!!

Combining elegant design with practical function, this Heritage Series two-slice toaster from Sunbeam features extra-wide slots to accommodate thick bagels or artisan-style breads. The toaster's food select buttons include bagel, pastry, and toast with seven toast-shade settings that allow for light to dark toasting. In addition, the unit offers reheat and warm options for heating up items without drying them out. Other highlights include extra-deep slots, self-adjusting centering guides that ensure bread is perfectly aligned for even browning on both sides, a cool-touch exterior, and a locking high-lift lever for safe removal of smaller items. The toaster measures 6 by 12 by 8-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

KitchenAid K5SSWH Heavy Duty Series 5-Quart Stand Mixer, White Review

KitchenAid K5SSWH Heavy Duty Series 5-Quart Stand Mixer, White

This is a heavier mixer than the "Artisan" model, and the bowl raises and lowers on a lever rather than the head of the mixer lifting up. If you make heavy breads or a lot of bread for your family, this may be a better choice mixer with the stronger motor.
You can also add a grain grinder to the front of the device--there's a lid that flips up and you insert it into a hole with a positioning pin. The motor then turns the grinder, sausage stuffer or vegetable grater. The grinders work terrific; the vegetable grater/slicer is a variation on those cone slicers and not my favorite attachment. But for a one-stop heavy-duty device that mashes potatoes, kneads bread, whips egg whites, stirs cake batter or grinds wheat flour or rye flour, this can't be beat.

The KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer has a strong 325-watt motor delivers the power to handle the heaviest mixtures, and mix large batches easily. The 5-quart stainless steel bowl with ergonomic handle is big enough to handle large batches of heavy mixtures. Its ergonomically designed handle is contoured to fit the hand and makes lifting the bowl more comfortable. The unique mixing action eliminates the need to rotate the bowl by spinning the beater clockwise and the shaft counterclockwise, moving the beater to the edge of the bowl at 67 different points. This ensures a quick and complete mixing action. TheStand Mixer includes a flat beater, dough hook, and wire whip which will add to the versatility of the mixer.

Sharp 900-Watt 0.9 Cubic Foot Convection Microwaves Review

Sharp 900-Watt 0.9 Cubic Foot Convection Microwaves
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Given the tremendous functionality, and especially for the price, I cannot in good conscience give this oven less than 5 full stars. However, that is definitely not to imply that it is perfect. Nothing is, and this is no exception. So, while others here have done a fine job of highlighting the positive aspects (which is in fact why I bought one, too), I will try to provide a more balanced perspective. First, though, a quick re-cap of those highlights. Yes, this oven really does do the job of three: a conventional microwave, a convection unit, and a toaster oven. In fact, that does not do it justice because it does even more than that. You cannot, for example, grill a burger in any of those types, but you can in this. Especially for a small kitchen, this is phenomenally useful. In just a couple of weeks, I've already become reliant on its non-microwave functions for a variety of things, from roast chicken to frozen French fries, both of which come out better than in my conventional oven and in much less than half the time. And cleanup has not been an issue.
Still, there are flaws. Others have noted the wobbly turntable and difficult to read LCD display, and this is true - but I think there are more serious ones. I'll start with build quality since that was the first one I encountered. I've unfortunately had a chance to explore this in-depth, thanks to a broken fan assembly in mine. This was not shipping damage, either, but a manufacturing defect. In checking out the problem, I was able to examine things on the inside, it was clear that the unit is built to a very tight price point. There is an abundance of crimped sheet metal, a minimum number of screws, and cheap plastic snap-ins securing (barely) too many of the vital components. I'll also note that Consumer Reports has been reporting failure rates for Sharp built-in microwaves (the only variety they track reliability in) many times that of the other brands. That said, this unit replaced a Sharp countertop microwave which was still going strong at 13 years. Another weak point - this time of the design - is the ratio of exterior to interior space. In other words, the cavity is quite small for the amount of space the oven takes up, even compared to other convection units. In fact, my counter can just barely accommodate its depth. This is likely partially the result of its `economical' design. Also related to that, no doubt, is the omission of a doneness sensor, which I would expect on any microwave at this price, convection or not. This sensor is what allows a microwave to automatically reheat dishes, and shut off when it detects, through the amount of steam given off, that a dish is done heating. Instead, we are given reheat presets, which are never adequate (unless maybe you weigh your food first and configure it just right on the plate).
However, not all the preset programs are useless. In fact, much to my surprise, some are invaluable. I expected that all the co-called `Compu-` settings were simple time presets, but this is not the case. Many of these are fairly complex cooking routines, sometimes involving all three methods in various sequences. For example, the Compu-Roast 1 program will cook a darn good roast chicken automatically, using microwave, convection, and even the upper grill for browning near the end. The hamburger Compu-Grill program works similarly well, though I believe with just the 2 grills. (It is not always possible to tell what cooking mode is being used). These programs make it simple for even a mediocre cook like myself to begin using the oven instantly and with good results. And it prevents it from becoming merely an overpriced microwave (like my mother's KitchenAid has: it has convection and an upper grill, too, but no programs, so they remain unused after 2 years). Nonetheless, the presence of such helpful programs does not preclude it having a doneness sensor which is virtually a standard feature these days. Ideally, it would also have a linear power supply like the Panasonics do, allowing truly low-power microwaving, rather than simply cycling full power on and off to simulate low power operation. But not many other manufacturers do this, and that may be expecting too much. Finally, beware that this oven will draw more current than a comparably-sized microwave-only unit: up to 13 amps. This can tax a typical 15 amp household circuit if anything else is plugged in. Add a toaster, for example, and you will trip a breaker (I have).
To summarize, while the build quality is a concern, very few ovens I am aware of offer as much functionality to bake, roast, microwave and grill - and fewer still offer preset programs making all that flexibility readily accessible. None do it for so low a price. In fact, of the few other countertop convection microwaves I could find, nearly all were over three hundred dollars actual selling price. That makes this unique oven a bargain in several ways.

Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RKG25H0XER Professional HD 5-Quart Stand Mixer, Empire Red Review

Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RKG25H0XER Professional HD 5-Quart Stand Mixer, Empire Red
Average Reviews:

Here's a review I wish I had read prior to buying my KitchenAid:
First, the not-so-good: I bought the stand mixer, model number RKG25HOXER. This type of mixer mimics in design what you see in professional bakeries inasmuch as it has a handle on the side of the mixer that you raise in order to bring the bowl to the beater level. This, in my opinion, is the drawback and I would never consider buying this model again. The level of inconvenience is tremendous and annoying. To be specific, it is very difficult to add ingredients with this design. Imagine you are mixing a batter and you must slowly and gradually add flour. You can't fit a 1/4 cup measuring cup within the bowl circumference (which is very small). To add ingredients, you must stop the machine; lower the bowl; add a the ingredient; raise the bowl; and begin the mixing process. You have to do this as many times as you need to add something to your batter. I couldn't imagine that someone had not thought of a solution for this problem, so I began my research. I found that in order to add ingredients, it is recommended that you purchase a special KitchenAid plastic apparatus that fits the lip of the bowl. This apparatus has a spout or chute in which to add things. I believe KitchenAid calls it a splash guard, but I could be wrong. So, add this $20 to the price of your mixer, because you will need to buy it. The apparatus is not the solution as your ingredients stick to the plastic spout/chute (imagine adding an egg, then having to add a bit more flour). The bottom line with this machine is that the design is NOT convenient.
Now, the good: It's a KitchenAid and you will never find a better motor or quality mixer. I adore the durability! What a less pricey brand would struggle to mix, a KitchenAid simply plows through. Doughs, any batter, kneading, you name it; the machine does it. The optional attachments are quality made (graters, grinders). A KitchenAid will do everything short of birthing your children. While I would never recommend the design I ended up with, I could never recommend anything BUT a KitchenAid. I suggest buying the model where the head of the mixer lifts, just like your Mom's did. If I was a rich woman, I would go out today and buy that model design, but alas, I am stuck with what I am stuck with.
Bottom line: Buy a KitchenAid, do not buy anything else. Buy the head-lift design and you will be happy for life. I wish I had known!
