A snip, mounted on the lid, makes for easy cutting of the length that you want. I use it with the velcro ties, ASIN: B0001LEQ44. A small piece of velcro tie forms a collar around the plant, then the Snip 'N Twist connects the collar to the tomato stake or cage. The Snip 'N Twist is basically a wire imbedded in a plastic ribbon, and it might cut a tomato vine. But by combining it with a softer tie, you can use it even with soft plants.
