(More customer reviews)I love this mixer!! I began researching the countertop mixers after reading the poor reviews on the KitchenAid. This mixer works wonderfully! I use spouted whole grain flour to make everything from cookies to bread; it is a very heavy and dense flour to work with, but no problem for this mixer at all. I even made sprouted whole grain oatmeal raisin chip cookies and it mixed all the ingreidents very quickly and perfectly. This receipe used to bog down my old hand mixer and I would end up mixing by hand...forever. This is a wonderful machine and I am so glad I bought it. FYI, it is heavy, but has wheels in the base that allow you to roll it accross the counter.

My nieces are going to go nuts over it when they come to visit! I like that it also has a lot of options like defrost, reheat, and bagel. I've never seen a toaster with defrost on it. It makes great toast and looks cute on counter.

(More customer reviews)If this is a second, I couldn't tell where. Very sleek, holds a decent amount of oil and is quite attractive on the countertop. I have another Old Dutch that tends to dribble oil down the spout - this one probably will too. The solution I found is to keep the top of a plastic container underneath to catch any drips.
I would have given this 5 stars, but the handle is a little skimpy. It is flat steel, not rolled. Rolled would have given more strength and be easier to hold. However, for the price, it's a pretty decent and very attractive oil can.

Althought I am not a professional myself, I find that using top equipment makes the differences. This knife speaks for itself. The edge has remainded true without a lot of fuss. The ease of use is something else. If used correctly you can slice and dice all day. The only drawback is the weight. And I did read the less than impressive reviews of the set and yet decided to go with it - 1) because of the price, (2) these received the relatively better reviews for a Henckels set (3) one-piece stamped steel construction. My husband was in the restaurant suply business for 7 years, and he is no fan of the Henckels International line but I succumbed to the draw of the little man (in the co. logo) without whom, I believe for the moment, no kitchen is complete. Since we received them, even my skeptical husband has gotten fond of them. They are not 'cheap looking', 'prone to rusting' (with proper knife handling, of course), 'thin blade'd, as some have opined here. We don't have a grand chef's kitchen operation running at our house and for us, these are great. With low to moderate use, regular hand cleaning and wiping down, they are still like new. They feel just right in terms of weight and look great. We have an extra pair of henckels kitchen shears that we were able to put in the block that had a compartment for it.

Norpro Marble Pastry Roller Review

(More customer reviews)I had the all wood Norpro 3078 and I loved it because the handle was longer and fit my "Man Hands". The 3078 has cast aluminum on each side of the wooden grip to hold the rollers which make it longer and easier to grip. I have I admit I've kind of abused it. I left it soak which I know makes the wood swell and eventually the wood cracks and discolors. So after I ruined the one I had I thought I'd step up to the Marble Roller.
The Marble roller seemed better for many reasons I could neglect it and not worry about it being ruined, it is heavier so it would have more weight to roll the dough out, the marble would not stick to the dough and there are no pores that the dough could get into. I was correct about all of these assumptions but there are flaws other than the small handle that I didn't like. The first thing I noticed is the wire that holds the rolling pins to the handle were bent so the rolling pin was crooked, I bent that out. The next thing i noticed is that the bushings on the side of the marble rolling pins fall out all of the time, I guess I could have epoxied them on.
I gave this one up and just bought a new 3078 again. I just take better care of so it lasts longer than the previous one.
P.S. I've noticed Amazon shows two different versions of the wooden roller with the same item number. there is the longer one like I've mentioned and a short version that looks like this marble one.

(More customer reviews)If you have electronics which require 100VAC input, this is a must have. Don't listen to your friends who tell you the 120VAC outlet works just fine. It's not true. I had other Japanese domestic electronics which used on the 120VAC outlet. Yes, they worked for some time (like a year) and then died. I know it should have lasted for longer than a year if I used it at 100VAC source. 20% Overvoltage and constantly stressing your equipment is NOT a smart idea, especially if you are running expensive gadgets.
Anyway, I got one of these from this seller is because either the local stores mark up the price (I got quoted $85 + tax!) or the online stores charge high S&H (the 1kW step-down transformer weights about 20lbs!). So I found this seller. They sell at a discount already. PLUS, the S&H is only $7. The sub-total is much lower than what the next cheapest seller would charge. Packing is good. It's basically 100% the same packaging from manufacturer.
This unit is Made In China, but rest assure that you'll get quality product. The manufacturer is a good one, and the transformer is tested to be reliable AND stable.

To a professional chef, no kitchen tool rivals a great set of knives. When learning my trade in Paris, France, I used only the finest Sabatier knives. Later in life, I was fortunate to make a Swiss Miss a Mrs. Typically frugal and practical... and from a family that has had the same Restaurant Bauernhof for centuries... so, when my prized Sabatiers were lost in transit, she replaced them with a more economical (stamped not forged) Swiss brand, R. H. Forschner by Victorinox.
Suddenly, this 70 year old retired chef cut through decades of knife prejudice... the sharpness, balance, thin blade and heft brought joy to my kitchen again... and for a fraction of what I would usually pay! It has been several years since my first Forschner and it is just as good as the one I just purchased.
Last fall we visited Oberlunkhofen, Switzerland, where my mother-in-law continues as chef of the family restaurant at 82 years of age and her 86 year old sister-in-law is the waitress. Her wooden handled knives were of excellent quality but could no longer pass the NSF rules. I purchased a set of H. R. Forschners for her at a Swiss wholesale restaurant supply house... at a price higher than we could have gotten them on Amazon.com! Not only is she a cutlery pro, but she values price and practicality even in gifts. Now she thinks kindly of me as she cheerfully slices through each day.

J.A. Henckels International Classic 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Chef's Knife Review

(More customer reviews)It's important to note that this knife is not made in Germany (the 4 Star, 5 Star, and Pro-S series are).
I started my good knife collection with a set of 3 of these International Classic knives. I later decided to get a larger set (9) of the 4 Star series, some of the finest knives in the world. However, I prefer this chef's knife over the 4 Star one. The grip is heavier and makes the balance a bit nicer.
For the paring knife, I much prefer the 4 Star one, so I wouldn't recommend the set of 3, but this knife is great. I use it all the time. If you are starting out on a knife collection, I recommend these things:
-a 4 Star 3-inch paring knife (or 2 if you are lazy with clean-up)
-this Chef's knife
-a cheap and large bread knife
-a medium sized 5-6in utility knife (good quality)
-a honing steel (good quality)
-a wood block to put them in (good knives should not be shoved into a drawer with other knives)
-[optional]a carving set of knife and fork, if you need carving utensils (I don't much)
I'd weigh the cost of these together against getting a more expensive set (if you are on a budget).
