I wanted to get one like my mom's, and this turned out to be less expensive, but a much better quality and heavier weight. I bought 2 of these, along with 2 of the smaller cookie sheets as part of Amazon's 4 for 3 promotion, and it only came to about $30! That is an incredible deal for stainless steel pans of this quality. I would absolutely recommend these.

Villeroy & Boch "Switch 3" Bread & Butter Plate Review

(More customer reviews)Corfu is the newest in Villeroy & Boch's Switch 3 pattern (I guess that makes it Switch *four*, huh? Hehe).
Pros:
1) Very durable - they handle all sorts of abuse in our household including getting banged into the faucet while being washed.
2) The ability to mix and match the corresponding patterns is nice. If I get tired of a particular design, I can simply change it.
3) These dishes are dishwasher and microwave safe.
4) The patterns are very versatile and are perfect for both everyday use and for formal occasions. This is great for households with limited storage - instead of two sets of dishes (one everyday, one formal), you only need one set and just switch around your table accessories.
5) As an added functionality, these bread and butter plates (in any of the patterns) make a great base for the 14 oz soup / cereal bowls when you want a more formal presentation.
Cons:
1) This isn't really a "con" per se, but a warning: These are microwave safe, but be careful! We microwaved something one time and I guess we set the time for two long, because when the food became superheated it literally cracked the plate it was on (note: it was not the Corfu bread and butter plate). When we took the plate back to the store, we were advised that nothing is entirely "microwave safe" and you just have to be careful. Just thought you should know...
Overall, I would highly recommend any Villeroy & Boch set, based on our very positive experience with our set. ENJOY!

They are very flexible and so I don't have to worry about them breaking and the price was so within budget!!!! My first loaf with this basket turned out perfectly. It is much easier than hand shaping a loaf, and much more rustic/natural than using a loaf pan. The natural coils shape and decorate the loaf the old-fashioned way. When it's done rising, carefully remove it from the basket and care fully put it on a pre-heated bread stone in the oven. The loaves look and taste great. this particular basket shape is great for making sandwich bread. I make almost all of my bread with one of these woven baskets. It is so convenient, and the bread lookks and tastes great.

Ginsu 4817 International Traditions 14-Piece Knife Set with Block, Natural Review

Chopping onions, dicing carrots, making perfect juliennes with red peppers and mincing the garlic fine for my famous (!) vegetable medley is...effortless. All because of these knives. Ooh they are sharp! So be careful or you may end cutting yourself!
I love the fact that the knives are sharp right out the box. Many people swear by their forged knife blades but that makes the knives heavier. I have another set from Pinzon (Amazon's brand) and yet another from Cuisinart that I barely use as they are heavier and not as sharp as these knives. I think stamped blades are great as they are lighter and thinner like these Ginsu knives. If you cut vegetables more than meat then you need knives like these. For meat you need heavier blades with more balance and "brute force". For slicing a tomato so fine that you can see through it you need a Ginsu. With a Ginsu in your hand you'll end up sculpting roses from your radishes!
Update 11/5/08: I have been using these knives for 1.5 years now. They're still doing fine and are still very sharp. I regularly throw them in the dishwasher and they have not shown any signs of rusting. I love these knives and miss them if I am cooking somewhere else. I use the steak knives as everyday knives for slicing veggies and they work very well. If I ever purchase another set I will go with Ginsu again.

(More customer reviews)I make bread weekly using a mixer and recently my Kitchenaid motor gave out after overheating. Though I prefer the looks of the Kitchenaid mixers (something more industrial about them), Cuisinart has addressed several of the key problems found in Kitchenaid mixers: not enough power, overly wide bowl shape, absene of timer/minimal speed control. The stronger motor is crucial if you're mixing bread doughs for minutes at a time. The taller, more narrow bowl shape prevents spilling. The timer function is tremendously useful. And the wider range of speeds (especially slow speeds) and gentle acceleration up to any speed, again, prevent spills and allow for more control.
Other features I like: the spill guard fits neatly and is ONE piece (again, unlike my old Kitchenaid); the lock feature clicks the top arm into place so you never run the risk of lifting from the top and having the bottom swing out; the smooth surfaces make for easy clean-up; the attachments all wash easily in the dishwasher.

Vic Firth Maple Rolling Pins Review

(More customer reviews)Sometime you just have to get back to the basics. Sometimes, it's the simplest design that works the best. Sometimes, all those fancy, additional features offered are just not worth it.
I think that this is the perfect example. This rolling pin is so simple, so basic - yet so perfect. The price is perfect too. It does the job. Period. It's light, beautiful, easy to clean, easy to store, not big and bulky. I think that it is absolutely perfect and I cannot find any faults to it. There are a lot of options when it comes to rolling pins and now they even make silicone ones that won't stick to the dough. I think those are excellent products as well. But I'm a little more traditional and here is a very beautiful and simple wood one...and in this case, I prefer the wood to the silicone. Maybe because making bread items is so basic and so traditional...so the wood in this case just "fits" into the whole feel better. If I were to splurge though, I'd have both in my kitchen...even though I see no need for two pins - I did say "splurge".
