Althought I did not buy this item from Amazon, I wanted to warn others how cheaply made this item is. I was so glad I did not pay for shipping and was able to return the item. It was dented when I received it. The opening mechanism was not smooth and the decorative rubber gasket tore after several attempts to open and shut the bread box....buyer beware!

This pizza peel is a little bit thicker than I was expecting, or perhaps more importantly, has a less tapered edge than I was expecting, making it a little difficult to remove pizza with the peel but I have had good luck sliding pizzas off my stone with a spatula and this is a really beautiful peel, perfect for serving.

Wilton Armetale Home Sweet Home Bread Tray Review

Wilton Armetale Home Sweet Home Bread Tray
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my first Wilton Armetale piece last holiday season from a dear friend. A bread tray with the sentiment "Bless This House". The sentiment and graphics are raised up a teeny bit from the surface of the tray, but not enough to create a mess for cleaning any foods cooked/warmed/served on it. It is HEAVY!!! With approx. 1 1/2" depth on the narrow sides and 1" on the longer sides, nothing slides off or spills over if it is slightly tipped. It is a little over 10.5" x 6" at the widest part on the top and narrows in as it goes toward the base. Stunningly beautiful, with an appearance like a hybrid of sterling silver and pewter, but not that 'brushed' look. The graphics and verbiage appear to be outlined in a shiny black enamel. I don't know what it is exactly, but it doesn't scratch or chip or melt.
I was hesitant at first even though the instructions indicated this was safe for cooking and serving food and beverages. However, little by little I found myself reaching for this time and again for hundreds of uses. As a bread tray for warm homemade bread at meal time, as a fruit bowl on the counter/table, I've even flipped it over and used it as a trivet for a hot serving bowl on the table. It keeps warm/hot things warm/hot and cold things cold for quite a while. I've actually put it in the toaster oven (perfect fit) for rewarming lasagne, pizza (crust stays crispy), breakfast muffins and croissants, grilled cheese and poppers. I've served crudite (?), ok, so I'm not real fancy - I call it veggie platter, and I loved the way it kept the veggies cold and crunchy. It looks a bit small at first glance, but once I began using it, it seemed to grow and grow. I've been to their website many times wanting to get some of these for friends and family, but left empty-handed due to price and shipping costs. Just this morning, I thought about Amazon. (Yeah! DUH on my part, I know)! Prices are amazingly lower for most of the products and my Prime Membership will help out also.
Although I don't see the "Bless This House" tray offered here, it isn't on the Wilton Armetale web site either. Wanted 2 of those particular trays as house warming gifts: one for my nephew who just bought his first home and one for his sister, my niece, who just moved into a new home. With homemade bread and homemade jam I've just made from the garden, I thought it would be a nice gift that would last. Think I'm going with the "Home Sweet Home" trays instead.
Oh, this goes in the freezer too. I've used it to hold ice cubes just before serving iced tea and they don't start melting and stick together nor do they start swimming in 10 seconds. Haven't tried serving shrimp cocktail on it, but I sure do intend to do so!
Wash by hand only with mild soap and warm water. Rinse with hot water and dry immediately. Actually, once rinsed with HOT water, it pretty much dries itself.
Edit: 1-2-10 Should have edited sooner, but kept forgetting. The trays purchased from Amazon arrived in wonderful condition, excellent packaging for gift-giving and look very 'similar' to the original that I received as a gift from Wilton Armetale. BUT, while they do 'nest' in each other and in my original, my original will NOT nest in them. The dimensions are a teensy bit off - sides a fraction bit higher, depth not exactly the same, outward curve of the sides/rim a hair different also and the individual pieces are much, much, much lighter in weight. I was completely baffled by this until I read the box - these come from China...not made in the USA. However, they are still just as functional and pretty/handsome on their own. Had I NOT gotten an 'original', I would never have known the difference or even suspected they were not quite 'right'.
Edit: 3/30/10 ok, so I've been using both my original (made in the USA)and the one made in China together for baking potatoes in the toaster oven, warming leftovers side by side in the large oven, etc, and always using them together. This week, the one made in China has started showing small areas where it appears the metal is defective: discoloration, almost like a bad welding spot that doesn't match the rest of the piece. These marks are appearing along the rim and travel down toward the base of the tray in sporadic locations. At first I thought it was baked on food, but it isn't. I figured, ok, I can live with that. But now, I must take-back my statement in the first paragraph above in my original review...the shiny, black enamel (?) that makes the design stand out is chipping off with each use and each washing (no dishwasher so these have been hand washed with each use). Baked potatoes last night and as I was washing this tray, I noticed little black oblongs and squares on the sponge...I knew it wasn't baked potato skin because I didn't burn the potatoes! When I picked it off the sponge with my fingers, it was hard and easily broken into smaller pieces;felt like very thin plastic, but what do I know? Hope to goodness no one ate any of this stuff because I still don't know exactly what it is. Had this happened shortly after purchased, you can bet I would have returned them very quickly. Unless you're buying Wilton Armetale made in the USA, stay away from these. This beautiful tray is now being used as a drain plate for my Easter lily. What a waste and a great disappointment.

Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich Press Review

Average Reviews:

I feel like I am back on the streets of Paris every time I plug in my beautiful Cuisinart Panini and Sandwich Press. This press makes the best grilled cheese sandwich you ever ate, I guarantee it. I love how you can stick a whole hoagie roll or chunk of french bread loaf with sandwich makings inside into it and squish it into a hot & yummy hunk of cheese-oozong goodness. Or, you can use regular bread and make toasty club sandwiches or grilled cheese.
This guy hangs out in the cupboard and is easy to pull out, just plug in and wait for the green light to come on. You can have a quick french dip dinner ready in 5 minutes that everyone will love- also perfect for grilled cheese and tomato soup night- or just want to make some garlic bread to go with your spaghetti without heating up the whole oven? I LOVE my panini press.
It is really easy to clean- although I haven't tried grilling meats or anything beyond sandwiches and bread. Gooey cheese comes off easily and the whole thing wipes down quickly with a damp washcloth.
Elvis would have died over the peanut butter and banana sandwiches we make in this baby! The frying pan's got nothin' on our Panini Press.

Zojirushi BBCC-V20 Home Bakery Traditional Breadmaker Review

Zojirushi BBCC-V20 Home Bakery Traditional Breadmaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My mother taught me to make homemade bread as a child and I have been making it ever since, but a breadmaker certainly is easier. I've had two, a Magic Chef which stopped working after I accidentally left the pan soaking overnight (the mechanism that turns the paddle won't budge), and a Zojirushi, which I now use every week, and don't leave soaking in the sink. (I chose the Zojirushi because it had good reviews and because I have their rice steamer and love it.)
Features I like: Double paddles. This is absolutely the way to go if you want a horizontal loaf, otherwise some of the flour can get stuck in a corner and not get mixed up. You can solve this by scraping the sides during mixing, but having to do that sort of defeats the purpose of a breadmaker.
Another thing I like is the "Homemade" setting, which allows you to customize the cycle times. The default is for French Bread, which, incidentally, comes out very well. One caution, their recipe calls for 3 teaspoons of yeast, which caused it to overrise. I now use 2 teaspoons and get great results. Also, the "default" setting for Homemade/French Bread wasn't set correctly on mine at first, but the instruction manual listed the correct settings and it was easy to reprogram. Good instruction manual, by the way.
One other nice feature is the preheat cycle. The trickiest part with bread machines is getting the right amount of yeast for the machine's timed rise cycles. Cold liqueds slow down yeast action, warm ones speed it up. I've found that the preheat cycle helps give more uniform results. (Age and amount of yeast affects it too, but the breadmachine can't compensate for that.)
Most of the other features, like jam and cake settings, I never use.
Disappointments: The window gets steamed up during processing and opening the cover causes it to pause so you can't really watch what it is doing. Also, the delay timer only works with the "Basic" bread setting. I wanted to set it to have French bread ready when I came home, and couldn't.
The thing I use most: The "Dough" setting. I prefer to let the breadmaker mix everything up for me and do all the initial risings, and then throw it in a pan for the last rising and bake it myself. This way the paddles don't get baked into the bottom of the loaf, and I don't have to worry about over or under rising. Honestly, it is the yeast that causes most problems people have with breadmakers. Old yeast, or not enough, and your bread comes out like a brick. Too much and it either overrises and sticks to the top, as it did the first time I made French bread with 3 tsp. of yeast, or it caves in during baking and you have a U-shaped top. (If it rises but the top is flat, rather than rounded, it's not the yeast. You probably have too much liqued or too little flour - adjust accordingly.)
I don't use mixes, so I can't comment on that, but I have an electric wheat grinder and often use fresh ground whole wheat (which they don't recommend), and this breadmachine handles it beautifully. I like being able to use all healthy ingredients, like whole wheat instead of white flour, and honey instead of refined sugar. In this case though it does need extra yeast, since the whole wheat flour is heavier.
I recommended this breadmaker to both my step-mother and my best friend, so I guess that's a pretty high recommendation. (My mother still does it by hand. Maybe someday I'll get her to try a machine.)

One of the most wonderful sensory experiences has to be the smell of baking bread. It nourishes the soul and warms the heart, just as the finished product nourishes and warms the body. After a few washes in the dishwasher, rust appeared at the all the cross points! It comes off with extra scrubbing, but now I have to put something over the rack before using it to ensure my food doesn't get any rust on it! Wash by hand, not in the dishwasher! Eliminate the frustrations of misshapen baked goods with this handy set of cooling racks. Constructed of rugged chrome with narrow grid patterns that prevent smaller treats from dropping through, the pair of racks offers a smart and food-safe way to cool a variety of freshly baked items--everything from cookies and bars to cakes, pies, and tarts. Their nonstick surfaces ensure that even the most delicate molasses lace cookies or petit fours can be easily removed without crumbling, while four stable feet beneath each rack raise foods off the counter to allow for proper air circulation and thorough cooling. Best of all, the generously sized racks supply plenty of space for cooling multiple 8-inch cakes or batches of cookies, and their low-profile designs slip neatly into vertical or horizontal cupboards for space-saving storage between uses. Great for busy kitchens and frequent bakers or chefs, each cooling rack measures 10 by 16 by 1 inches.

I love the idea of a half loaf. It is a nice change from the normal rectangular loaf pans. What I like: The shape - it's cool looking. The size - it's small and cooks quickly. It's made in Germany - not China.
What I don't like: The pan is thinner than I am used to. The non-stick stuck. The size - it's small and does not hold much. Most recipes will need a second pan. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just be aware of the quantity.

Universal Plus Kitchen Machine (w/ out blender) Review

Universal Plus Kitchen Machine (w/ out blender)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This mixer is powerful. You have the main unit where you attach your bowl, and a secondary unit where you can attach a blender.
There are many, many accessories you can buy for this unit. Be sure if you buy accessories you buy for the correct unit as accessories for this model are NOT interchangeable with Bosch's previous all-in-one machine! I've already had to return one attachment because I made this mistake. Look for accessories that have a model number starting with MUZ6!
This machine tears up just about any food you throw at it. When you turn it on you can get the feel for the full 800 watts of power it is capable of by it's roaring sound. You may need to run to your circuit breakers to find a suitable plug for the unit, since 800watts is just about the limit most circuit breakers can take. It's doubtful you can run this unit along with another kitchen appliance at the same time in the same receptacle.
Cleanup is not fun, not fun at all. I did not like the design of the bowl in this aspect. There are plenty of crooks and crevices that dough gets in that take some scrubbing to get out. Also, the top/center of the bowl serves as the "gears" for some of your accessories, but when not using them, they catch quite a bit of food in them, and it is difficult to clean.
While on the subject of the bowl, other than cleanup, it's an awesome design. There is a removable splash guard around the rim that allows you to add flour to a recipe, while the unit is running without making a mess. You also have another lid that fits into the splash guard for the bowl to cover it should you need to rise dough.
My unit came with the blender, so I'll review it here as well. The blender is wonderful too. I can actually grind my own wheat in it for pancakes and cleanup is a snap. Also the design of the blades is ingenious as one blade is actually pointed downward toward the base to clear shop where most blenders don't touch. One problem I did have was with the blades and how they attach to the blender. They are removable, but when you put them back you need to really make sure that you tighten it well. If they are not tight enough, your blended battery goo will fall down into the crevices of the machine, which could possibly damage it. There are unfortunately small holes where this could easily occur. Unfortunately when you tighten the blades down, it's really difficult to get them untightened (Believe me, I'm a man, it's hard!). I end up having to get a pair of pliers and using them backwards (grip handles on the device) to get the blades out.
Another issue with the blender that has to potential to drive me nuts is the small removable top (not the main blender top, but the small plastic piece you can remove to stuff food down). There is a hole in it! Not large, probably about 1/4 inch, but it's still large enough that if you blend just right your stuff will come out of the blender. There is absolutely nothing you can do about this, shy of sticking your finger, a napkin or paper towel down it while blending. Bosch wanted this to act more like a drip funnel, but I just don't get the point of having a hole here.
Hands down, this is a great unit, and Bosch has a known reputation of creating kitchen units that last for years, even decades! I would definitely recommend this one to anyone serious about cooking in their home!
